Computer crash, a tale of woe. Lost my sound and ability to play my game.

Aye…'tis a tale of woe. But I have recovered. Although I lost everything. Well…everything but my modem driver anyway.

Thanks goodness.

The system…

Athlon duron 1.2.

SIS chipset…I don’t remember the number but it’s an old one.

XP professional.
Now my problems.

No sound. Is there a driver available for multimedia audio controller?

I have been playing Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2003. Before the crash it ran fine. After reinstalling, directx tells me I don’t have enough video memory to run the game.

What could have changed?

Here’s a stupid question…do you have an onboard video processor as well as a card, and forgot to set the default video to use the card?

Just a brainstorm.

What is the make and model of the motherboard? CPU-Z may tell you. If not you’ll have to open up the case and look. Once you have that it should be easy to check the manufacturer’s website or driverguide.com.

Also, have you upgraded DirectX to the latest version?

But run DEFRAG. Just try it. My POS computer will act all crazy from time to time: freezing, no sound, odd display issues, insufficient memory (and I have scads of memory). Running DEFRAG cures me every time.

I have no idea why or what’s going on. But it does the trick for my Compaq.
