I’ve got a new Gateway computer with a 17" LCD screen. (Okay, it’s relatively new, being April)
Anyway, when I pop in either Civilization III or (especially) MechWarrior III, it seems like the ‘aspect ratio’ gets changed (like when going from TV to widescreen DVD).
Is there any way to turn this off? I’m sick of being ambushed from behind when I can only see half of my sensors. . .
What resolution is your LCD? - I know some of the 17" ones are 1280x1024, a 5:4 setup, and it doesn’t always play nicely with games that prefer a 4:3 setup since LCD’s can’t change their resolution without doing various interpolation tricks. I know CIV III uses a 1024x768 resolution by default.
I reccomend going into the config settings for MechWarrior III, and seeing if you can change it to the same resolution as you monitor. As for CIV III, to change the resolution is a bit trickier. You are going to have to open the “civilization.ini” or ptw.ini (if you have the PTW expansion pack) in a text editor and add the line
KeepRes=1
to force the game to play at your screen’s resolution.
