Well, the screen anyway. Now, when I’m looking at my desktop, the start bar is about a third of the way up the screen, with about an inch of blank space at the bottom. (My start bar is also about three times too wide). The desktop icons appear smaller, as does text when I’m on the Web. It’s as if my computer has decided I have a 15" screen instead of a 17" screen. (When I play a game off a CD, I don’t have this problem).
This all started after I installed Civ 3. Anyone with clues how this happened or how to fix it? Thanks.

Some games like 800X600 resolution…
Go to start >settings >control panel >display >settings
Fiddle with the Desktop/Screen area slider bars till you find something that works.
This will probably happen every time you load the game, BTW.
Sounds like you don’t have your monitor set up for the resolution you’re using.
Before doing anything else, right-click on an ‘empty’ area of your desktop and choose ‘properties’ from the drop-down list. Click on the ‘settings’ tab, there should be a slider in the lower right that has your resolution on it. Move the slider to another resolution and click ‘apply’ (as you mentioned that you don’t have a problem while playing a game, choose 640x480 or 800x600). Is the picture correct now? If so, it’s not a problem with your monitor. You have to adjust your monitor for each resolution that you will be using (i.e. 640x480, 800x600, 1280x1024, etc.) as this is difinately not a case of ‘one size fits all’.
Most monitors have a button (or series of buttons) on the face below the tube. Use these to adjust the picture. There will be horizontal and verticle sizing controls as well as tilt, pincushion, placement, and others. These will allow you to ‘shift’ the position of your ‘picture’ up or down, or side to side. You can adjust the verticle size, the horizontal size, or both at once. As i don’t know which monitor you have i can’t walk you through this part; you’ll just have to experiment. If you can find it, dig out your monitor’s manual for instructions or go to the manufacturer’s website.
In the mean time, find a resolution that is already correctly set and leave your monitor at that resolution.
