Computer Help: HP Laptop, Windows 10, Screen Resolution Went All Wonky

I downloaded Star Wars, The Old Republic last night, and ever since then my screen resolution has been weird. I think my PC have gone into Safe Mode (is that still a thing?). Images and text aren’t as sharp, everything seems to have been “stretched” horizontally.

What can I do to get things back to normal?

I assume you’ve already tried rebooting the computer?

Next thing to try is: Right click on the desktop background, choose “Display settings” (or click on the Start button and start typing “display settings” then click on it when it comes up as a choice). Then change the “Resolution” setting back to the screen’s native resolution, which should be the one marked as “Recommended.”

Yes, I’ve rebooted, and the “Recommended” resolution fix didn’t help.

You may want to try re-installing the display drivers from the HP site for your laptop. Go to support.hp.com and then go to “Software and Drivers” to locate the appropriate driver.

What exactly is the resolution set to? And what’s the scaling set to (should be the setting right before or after the resolution)?

Are you just using the laptop’s built-in screen, or external monitor, or both?

It’s fixed, whatever it is. In desperation, I shut it down and let it “sleep” overnight, now it’s working just fine. Weird.

I have an HP laptop with Windows 10 and I have the same problem. Every time the computer reboots the screen resolution and icons are super sized. I have to put the computer to sleep then awake to return things to normal. You’re right, it is wierd.
