Computer Help - Monitor is stuck in power save mode.

When I start up my dell 4600c dimension desktop the monitor won’t turn on. I don’t see any start up images at all. Instead, I only get an orange light on my monitor. When I press one of the buttons on my monitor the screen tells me that it is in power save mode and that I can press any key to return to normal, but pressing the keys won’t do anything.

I tried checking to see if it was a video card problem but plugging the monitor into the motherboard does not work either. I also checked all the wires and they all seem to be connected.

When I had this problem before, I would just turn the computer off and then on and it would start up normally. Now it is being stubborn and won’t start up.

Any advice?

Your monitor is probably on the wrong mode, either digital or analog, try pressing whatever button it is to switch the modes. It somtimes is a + or a number 1 or 2

Your video card may still be hosed, its not uncommon to see onboard video shut off in bios due to directing video output to AGP or PCI bus.

If you have another computer try plugging the monitor into it, maybe even a friend or neighbors machine if you don’t have one.

If it works fine on their PC, might be time to invest in a new video card. If not, could very well be that the monitor is toast.
