Computer: "MSN blocked access to potentially unsafe attachments"

WTF? Please help!

Let’s say I’m trying to send you a web-based article from Time Magazine. Okay, so I locate the page, and then I click “File,” then “Send,” and then click either “Page by e-Mail” or “Link by e-Mail.”

And that’s when I get this message: “MSN blocked access to the following potenitally unsafe attachment (insert url here…)”

This happens with every page I try to link to. I’d have no problem sending you an MS Word attached to an e-mail, but I can’t attach a web-based page or link.

MSN tells me it’s a virus–that it can’t possibly be there problem. However, my McAfee protection is current as of today–and so is SpyBot and AdAware.

Any ideas what this could be–any whatsoever? Please help!

In my experience, especially since Win XP came out, most email security will strip the attachment, regardless if it’s a url or executable file. While it’s quite frustrating, the workaround is to just copy the url and paste it into the text of the message. I’ve experienced the problem both at home and at the office.

I’m on Win2000. I had no problems attaching web-based articles to e-mails until recently. It might coincide with the release of MSN 8, but that is guesswork on my part. That said, MSN categorically denies MSN 8 has anything to do with it. In fact, a Level III god said, “It has to be a virus. I’m 100 percent sure of it.”

McAfee says no virus.

In my experience McAfee seems to cause problems with almost all internet/communications software, from Netscape 7 to my mobile phone USB sync software, so that might be the issue. Have you tried it with all the parts of McAfee disabled?

Checking with my office mate, I’m running Win XP and he’s running Win2K. When I try to link or page by email, it strips the attachment. Come to find out, our email server is stripping the attachments but my office mate doesn’t get the “outlook blocked the following attachments…” error message.
