I have a 2-year old Compaq 6000 with XP home.
The PC just crashed, with the following message showing on the screen:
The system Flash ROM image has been corrupted.
Please insert a Rompaq diskette… obtainable at…
I didn’t go through that and just turn the PC off and on again. It seems to work fine.
Is there something to worry about ?
Thanks
(I’ve checked the sticky)
If it works fine now, I really doubt there is much to worry about. Many computer problems fix themselves after a reboot. Sometimes the problem returns but just monitor it and consider it a freebie for now.
I’m wagging here, but it sounds like your Compaq has read-only memory that it stores backup system info in. Presumably it uses it to recover from certain bad crashes or if the system on the hard drive gets screwed up.
So what it’s telling you is that this ROM has itself got corrupted, so next time you get your computer in a mess it will not be in a position to come to the rescue. But you can still use your computer in the meantime.
Time to look at your user manual and perhaps get hold of one those ROMpaq disks.
