Computer question

I am thinking about buying a 2nd hand laptop. One for sale which I might get cheap is a nice-looking Samsung. The owner says that he was using win 7 64bit when the keyboard did not function, so he installed Ububtu and now it works fine.

What does this mean? I am pretty computer savvy and if all I have to do is reformat and install a copy of windows, I am good to go.

How can this possibly mean damage to the laptop??

Sounds like the Windows 7 keyboard driver may be foobar. If it works fine with Linux I would either use Linux or re-install Windows and hope for the best. How old is is the laptop? I hope you got a really good deal since you can get a brand new ones fairly cheap that will run faster and have more memory and disk etc.

I’d make a backup of the working OS and drivers to an external HD just in case.

What I am asking is: this is a software problem and not a hardware issue, right?

I’m thinking of buying it. I don’t have it.

If he is telling the whole truth, yes. But I wouldn’t touch that machine myself unless he gives a money-back guarantee.
