Computer speakers have been buzzing and/or popping lately- what's up?

Ever since our lights flickered the other day (due to heavy rain) and everything shut down, it seems that every time the furnace pilot lights the warmer, just before the fan turns on, I get a buzzing, or popping sound from my computer’s external speakers. Other electrical things in the house seem to be doing this too.

What’s up?

(I did also change the location of my CPU recently- could there be some kind of crossed wires creating some kind of “feedback”?)

P.S. also when I send emails- I hear a pop from the speakers ??!?!?

You’re getting interference in the wires. I used to get it all the time in mine because of my cellphone (it got to the point where if my phone was within five feet of my speakers or my desk with my PC< I got a buzzing sound. But now that I have 3G cell service, it went away.)

Do you have a wireless router that you connect to? The fact that it happens when you send an email makes me think it’s related to uploading/downloading, and that could be it.
