Computer speakers output loud white noise when room light is turned on

I live in a small apartment where the bedroom light is connected to two switches, one in the bedroom itself and one just outside of it in the kitchen. When I turn on the light using the kitchen switch, one set of speakers in the room outputs a loud, continuous, this-things-gonna-explode type of noise. It lasts until the same switch is toggled again. This is different from the “pop” many people experience.
Turning the light on from the other switch has no effect on the speakers.

How can this happen?

Is the kitchen switch on a dimmer?

the switch could be arcing internally generating noise which is coming through your speakers. if the noise is radio noise then an AM radio near the switch will also pick that up. switch is likely defective and should be replaced an not used until replaced.

It might just be a loose wire connection at that switch, which can be fixed just by making the connection secure. Otherwise, replace the switch. They cost less than $1, and take about 5 minutes to replace.

But don’t use that switch until it’s fixed. And do it quickly. A 3-way circuit like that has current going through that switch whenever the light is on, even if it’s turned on with the other switch. So a loose connection there could be a fire risk. Get it fixed!

If there was current going through the switch then the light would be on. The fact that the light is off means no current is flowing. But it still could be a risk. Unless it’s a dimmer switch…

Be sure to turn off the electricity to that switch before you change it. And be sure it is well grounded.
