I had Parallels Desktop 13 installed on a Mac that died. Bought duplicate model box on eBay, transferred hard drive and RAM and hit the start button and it’s like nothing happened, except for Parallels. Which is one of those SW packages where the license / registration key is tied to the MAC address and which doesn’t let you deploy on two different pieces of hardware.
Their ever-so-helpful instructions say to go to the old box and “log out” of Parallels so that it knows you’re relinquishing the license key from that hardware. Umm, look, there is no log out, no log in, no log sideways or any other kind of log gonna happen on that old box.
Parallels used to have quite good tech support, of the live and human and well-informed variety. If they still do, they’ve gone a spectacular job of mortaring them off from where folks like me can get to them.
I know there’s a way to disassociate the license key from the old box because I had to do it once before, but I can’t find my notes on the topic and it sure isn’t obvious. Can’t even buy an incident of paid tech support from Parallels. Instead they offer to let me “upgrade” to one of those “rent your software” packages that I absolutely don’t want.
Ok, so who knows how to do this thing?
