I just need preferences from Munch and Hugh Jass.
Munch - the outer countries (England, France, Russia, Turkey) are easier places for a newbie to survive. Even experienced players tend to have a harder time with the inner countries (Austria, Germany, Italy). Just a word for choosing your country preferences, which is worth every penny you paid for it.
And France and Russia stand good chances to not only survive but to win. England and Turkey are harder to win with.

Thanks for all the offers of help, all. I’ve submitted my preferences, and should be stopping by the game shop tonight to start delving. I really appreciate all the newbie help.
OK, i have all the preferences. Over the next couple of days I’ll assign countries and get a web page up. As i see it, since we’re not starting 'til next year, there’s no immediate rush, I’m not gonna kill myself to get it up today.

OK, it’s the 15th of December. Like I’ve said, I’m not going to engage in diplomacy until the beginning of January. But others are. That really doesn’t work.
Since countries have been announced, I can’t see an easy fix, either. So please try to find a replacement for me.

If you’re not going to have thu first deadline until January, why not just wait until January to announce new country assignments?
My game didn’t start well. I’m either going to be eliminated early (and thus available again soon) or am going to have the coolest move ever next turn.
I’d be OK with reassigning closer to the start date. Doesn’t make any sense to spend two weeks looking for a new player.
However, my personal experience is that really very little of substance can be negotiated before the first move anyway. RTFirefly, as long as we leave enough time after the first of the year for you to make opening overtures and responses to all players, do you still think that you’ll be at a disadvantage?
