I have been doing some reading. The basics don’t look too bad. The devil is in the detail. Hopefully being psychic might help, but I think that was a one time deal. Anyway, roll on 1901. My foreign policy is going to revolve around being an honest and benign milatary tyrant. Countries will cry out to be invaded by my armies!

I wouldn’t worry too much about the game mechanics, they are in most cases pretty simple, N+1>N. The complex part is figuring out the other players. Being a tactical Diplomacy genius is helpful, but the best tactical mind on the planet is going to be creamed if two or three average players team up against him.
Reminds me of the “Pure” diplomacy map. The map has 7 spaces, each a supply center for one of the players. Each player starts with one army. And every space is considered adjacent to every other space. Not much tactics there.

Wait, the Pure variant is slightly different, since it is a three player variant. 3 provinces, three players.
Since some of the players were in the aborted game and some weren’t, and since those players would likely have the same country choices, and to avoid any accusations of long time collution, I assigned countries by putting everyone’s name in a hat. I called out a country, my wife drew a name, and viola!

Ha! Italy. I would die for Italy. My poor country is surrounded on all sides. Fortunately I feel warm feelings emanating from my neighbours and suspect that we are all going to try and get along and avoid confrontation. Yeah that’s the ticket. Actually Germany looks fun. Lots of borders, lots of opportunity to meet new people and offer Germanic hospitality. Or something.
