Unfortunately, we’ve had one player who has to drop out from RL concerns, so we need a replacement. Shibb, you wanna help us out? You’re in here more than those folks playing. Winter builds are on hold for the new player.
I’m in here because I’ve been advising one or more newbies. So I’m hardly in a true neutral position. We just lost our Austria, Germany and France in the other game. That’s Omniscient, tdn, and Lockz, I think. Maybe one of them would be interested in a fresh start?
I have a doper friend who (unlike me) is an experienced Dip player. I could invite him to play, but he has already enjoyed giving me some advice on my play. Anyway, if all else fails, I could invite him to play Russia. I would prefer not to (not least because I will then lose my only adviser). Anyway I thought I could at least suggest it. The biggest problem I see with this is I know him personally, and conflict of interest issues arise. Anyway, if all else fails, it is a possibilty. I would much prefer if we could steal a player from the other game though. Has anyone sent enquiring emails?
Crapola. Apologies. I made a guess as to our lost player and somehow that got stuck in my mind as fact. I don’t know who we have lost. Sorry again for making assumptions.
Wow, that’s a great fall. I can’t say much until I see the builds, but I love these games with people who aren’t as experienced. My World Masters game is downright stodgy; no one makes really daring attacks.
I hope you find a replacement soon, because it looks like an interesting game.

S’okay- I had no time this weekend for Diplomacy, either.
The Austrian monarch’s velvet words constantly remind me of how a diplomat should behave. His overtures are so gentle that a lamb would seem as an irate Attila when struck in contrast. His machinations would have Machiavelli himself look like the village idiot. Speaking of Italians and the village idiot, what was the Venician hoping to achieve? Was it a cunning bluff that so well characterizes the Italian blood? My sources suggest that very little else could explain the stumbling of feet that originated from that quarter. Meanwhile, the English and French seem intent on redefining the entente cordiale. This speaks volumes for the quality of discourse that travels between these two most respected of neighbours. For myself, I just regret that the smorgasbord invitation I accepted. If the mighty Russian Czar had conveyed his intentions in that area with more clarity, we might have avoided the lamentable confusion that ensued. At least the Ottomans are reaching the high level of diplomatic exactitude for which they are famed. The Black Sea may be poor for the quality of its sturgeon, but the navy that successfuly enters that body of water must have a piscine abilty to communicate with the aforementioned Czar.

I’m watching! But then I am playing. For now at least! It has been a great game so far. I was somewhat mortified at executing my first ever stab. I am sure I will get over it. There have been a few great emails that have brightened my day. It has been worth it for that alone.
I hope someone who knows diplomacy might comment on the game at some stage. It would be interesting to hear how this game compares to those where the players are more experienced than in this one.
Who wants an alliance with Germany? Form an orderly queue please.
It’s beyond interesting, it’s been a bit bizarre and unpredictable, which often happens when you have new talent in a game.
