I’m all for rape deterrents, but I can’t imagine how traumatic it would be for a woman to insert one every day on the off chance she might get raped.
This doesn’t sound particularly new; I think Fox news is a bit behind the times here.
I first heard of Rapex many years ago; its name was changed to the Rape-Axe featured in the OP’s article.

Yeah. That. It seems like a sad way to go through life. Though I guess in some places it is that common.

When I read the article, my first thought was that this might incite further violence towards the woman who is wearing it and “catches” the predator. My second thought was that rapists may choose anal penetration to avoid the potential dangers of this contraption. 
Clearly the answer is to arm these women to the teeth. A rapist with a booby trap on his penis can still strangle his victim to death. A rapist with a bullet in his skull, not so much.
I’m having a hard time seeing the down-side to this, apart from cost.

I agree it sounds clever but really if a man is big and powerful enough to get close enough to a woman to rape her all that’s gonna happen if he gets hurt is to get MORE violent.
Of course this assumes the rapist is already going to do the worst anyway.
Also what if it’s a gang rape? The first guy may get hurt but the rest may catch on and use an object on her or inflict other violence on her in some twisted form of retribution.
Also you better be damn careful how you take that thing out.

Does anyone have a picture of one of these? Normal female condoms I’ve seen are pretty obvious; they stick out. Do these fit completely inside the woman, and if not, what’s to prevent a rapist from just pulling it out?
I can’t think of any possible way that this doesn’t turn a rape victim into a murder victim.
Edit: unless those teeth have deadly poison on the tips.
Well, it’s being used in South Africa, which has a frighteningly high rape incidence. Something like 20% of men in South Africa admit to raping a woman in the recent past.
