Condoms

I heard a rumor once that waaay back in ancient Egypt condoms used to be made out of wood. Ouchay, I know. I mentioned this to a friend, and I was challenged to come up with a source.

I know I saw it on the internet somewhere, but I dunno where. I figured if anyone can help me it’s you guys ;> If you can dig up any links to this site or elsewhere to prove or disprove this rumor, I’d be greatful.

Thanks.

Looks like you’re out of luck. “In ancient Egypt a linen sheath was used as protection against diseases.

Good thing there wasn’t a wager involved.

“They used a wood condom in Egypt?!?”
“Yep.”
“No way!”
“I’m serious.”
“Don’t believe you.”
“Okay, let me find a cite. If there is, you have to wear a wooden condom.”
“Deal! And, if they didn’t, you have to wear one.”
“Umm, okay. You’re on.”

You’re a very lucky person, Thyarr.

Surely not the origin of a ‘Woody’!!!

But possibly the origin of, “You’re not getting near me with that thing!”

I may be going out on a limb here, Thyarr, but I think you’re barking mad.

I thought that it was animal intestine that was originally used as a prophylactic?
