Conduct Unbecoming a Moderator

Libertarian is taking a break from everyday activities on this board.

Please give him space and time and some basic consideration, it’s not right to make comments about someone that’s not here to defend himself.

He’s listed as being “On Sabbatical.” That means just what it says, he’s not an active participating member of the SDMB.

There was something that bothered me about the whole incident. If you look at Euty’s post to this thread, you will probably see what I mean.

Ooops, my link seems to take me to the end of page one of the thread instead of Euty’s post. Sorry about that.

I, for one, fail to see the relevance.

Sheesh.

Well, I could have misinterpreted the whole thing, but from

I thought that Euty was against appeals to pity or such devices, yet he posted this:

in response to a troll who asked what was up his ass.

Basically, in my understanding, Euty did something very similar to what he accused lib of doing.

If someone shows me I’m wrong, I’ll gladly retract the statement.

So, k.os, you felt it was necessary to dredge this up in a thread where Euty apologized to the board. You’re a class act all the way.

And you think that the two events are similar, right?

You’re about as sharp as a bag of wet mice.

Slip
If you believe that the two incidents are so dissimilar, please explain. Insulting me doesn’t help clear up the issue.

Well, it’s not my job to educate you, k.os.

If you can’t see what is obvious to me, than nothing I say will have an effect.

And the difference between your insult to Euty and my insult to you is that mine was direct and to the point.

k.os:

In the first case, Euty was answering a direct question: what bug crawled up your ass? He was describing the bug. In the second case, Lib pullled out a deeply emotional anecdote in what appeared to be an attempt to add emotional resonance to a topic which was really rather trivial.

I’m not Slip, but I play him on TV.

The difference is that Euty was asked what’s bothering him, and so he answered. Lib decided to open a new thread to continue on about how ill-received his idea was and used the story of his dead sibling to further an agenda over an ultimately trivial subject.

Can you see that difference on your own, or do I need to draw you a map?

I was not insulting Euty.

I pointed out the fact that he used similar devices in a past argument.

If that constitutes an insult, I am sorry. It was not my intention.

Just to clarify my position:

It seemed pretty obvious to me that john487 was referring to Euty’s closing this thread. I fail to see what Euty’s personnal life, tragic though it is, had to do in the thread here.

Euty himself knew this, as expressed by himself in point 11 of his flaming of john487:

I’m dropping this now.

Again, if I upset anyone, I apologize, such was not my intent.

I don’t wear shades when I’m on night watch. Would you mention that to the director?

Thanks.

This could have just been another run of the mill SDMB “agree to disagree” pissing contest between conflicting opinions until Libertarian decided to be a sulking drama queen and exhume the corpse of his dead brother and proceed to attach him to a puppeteer rig so he could manipulate everyone’s emotions with an extremely moving story and then bounce him up and down at the end in support of his position. It was just a horrible thing to do.

Whether Libertarian’s deceased brother exists in fact or in fancy is beside the point. Doing this was beyond even the limits of bad taste for the pit and Euty’s response was not out of line. I think a lot of people felt the same way about Libertarian’s stunt.

Bullshit. It was clearly your intent. You took a parting shot with your links and quote. But you’re “dropping it now.”

Well, thank you very much.

I guess you may have figured out by now that I don’t have much patience with a weasel.

Have a nice day.

The whole situation is totally ridiculous, IMO. Many of the comments in the original MPSIMS thread were of the following style, with my responses here for the first time (I wasn’t particularly fond of hashing things out in MPSIMS).

[li]We already do that when we want to.[/li]~Then what is the big fucking deal?
[li]This will start problems.[/li]~The biggest problem I see is what we have here, not actually congratulating posts, posters, etc. In short, a self fulfilling prophecy. Thanks.
[li]I don’t want to have to compete with my posts.[/li]~?? Like we’re were going to give away fame, money, and a fucking prime-time slot on national television.
[li]This will inspire cliquishness.[/li]Allow me to roll my eyes. There, that’s better. We have forums dedicated to different styles of posting. We have flirt buddies. We have political lines in GD. We have mod-lovers and mod-haters. In short: . You want to get upset about cliquishness it is a little late. You should have checked in a few evolutionary branches ago.

Now we end up with feelings hurt, not because of congratulatory writings, but because of the mere possibility of congratulatory writings by a group of admittedly arbitrary posters! Well, I’m sorry it came to this, and I am suprised and disappointed. I thought it would be fun, too. Perhaps I’ll go check out the IMHO Prom King and Queen thread where I won’t be accused of some oblique conspiracy to undermine posters’ feelings.

erislover, it probably would have been a lot of fun, and I didn’t really have a problem with the concept.

But I sure had a problem with who was running the show, and how it was going to be run.

The whole thing was an ill-conceived fuck-up right from the start. Even you have to admit that.

Frankly, if you were to start something like this, I would merely sit back and watch the show.

I won’t take a cheap shot at Lib, because he’s not here to defend himself, and because I’ve already stated my reason in the original thread.

If you want to pick up the pieces and try to salvage this, you won’t hear a word in opposition from me.

If Libertarian is involved in any way, you will.

Slip

I am not weaseling, you are misrepresenting my intentions.

Big difference.

As I have said before, the only reason I posted the links and the quote I did my last response was to clarify why I had posted what I had posted earlier.

I cannot help the fact you see insults where none are intended.

I will not be dragged in a pissing match, so I won’t respond to your insults anymore.

The biggest criticism I had seen was “Other award-type-things led to hurt feelings in the past”. While I think Lib should have handled the negative reactions a bit better, I do think that the idea is, at the core, a good one, and have been thinking of ways to make it work to everyone’s satisfaction.

If there are any specific aspects of it that you think are “ill-conceived”, then I, for one, would be quite glad to know exactly what they are, so that they may be avoided.

What makes you think that I’ll continue to insult you? I’m done with you. Your sense of fair play is sadly lacking.

A guy apologizes, but that’s not good enough for you. You have to bring up something that happened three weeks ago, unrelated to what’s happening now. Whether Euty should have apologized or not is completely irrelevent. The fact that he did should be enough. Most civilized people graciously accept the apology and do not throw up past transgressions, real or imagined.

Grow the fuck up, punk.

Coldifre:

Ahh, my apologies. I’d actually read the post, but didn’t have it in front of me when I posted here. What stuck with me about it was (A) that you closed the thread in question, and (B) that nearly the entire post was a list of reasons why Lib had to take it out of your forum. I forgot about the very last line, and just connected A and B above. Anyway, like I said, mea culpa.
