Well, I really seem to have done it this time. A week ago, my right leg felt a bit sore and twisted. On Thursday I was limping slightly; on Friday, I was limping badly. I was going away for the weekend, so my only concession was to stop and buy a cane and a couple of ice packs while driving out. On Saturday, I got out of denial and into reality and asked the friends I was travelling to drive me to the emergency room. Yesterday, I got the verdict.
I’ve done something highly unpleasant and painful to my knee. The doctor doesn’t know what it is exactly, only that removing about a cubic inch (16 ccs) of fluid from my knee didn’t help. It’s intensly painful if I walk on it, and it tends to shift and pop. As a result, I’m to spend the next week resting at home and walking on it as little as possible, preferably with my leg up. Nothing’s broken and it doesn’t look infected. Meanwhile, I’ve been given an anti-inflammatory and an antibiotic, in addition to the Vicodin the ER prescribed. If thing’s don’t improve, I may be getting an MRI next Tuesday.
It’s going to be a long, boring, depressing week, especially since sitting around doing nothing doesn’t come easily to me. I’ve got a good supply of books and knitting and friends and family who’ve driven me to doctor’s appointments and will help out with meals, etc. so practical matters are under control. Sympathy and advice would be appreciated, though. I’ll also apologize in advance if I sound whiny this week.
I got bored the other day, and did a search for those SDMB threads where everyone posts their favorite websites. Those might entertain you for awhile. Here you go:
Unfortunately, my internet connection was wonky for most of yesterday. The other thing I’ve noticed is the drugs, the knee, or something is leaving me pretty exhausted. This is not going to be a fun week!
Not that this will help you any, but my wife had something similar, only it happened to her ankles after some jogging. They swelled up and left her in serious pain. The doctor thought it was probably tendonitis and gave her some tylenol and anti-inflammatories, which seemed to do the trick. She was good to go a few days later. Never did pin down exactly what happened.
Anyway, hope you feel better soon! I know that if I was in your shoes, my Xbox would be logging some serious hours.
Ooh! Ooh! If you have a laptop or similar you can use in bed, go buy World of Warcraft. The week’ll go by like nothing and before you know it, it’ll be Christmas…um…maybe you should make arrangements to be reminded to stop playing after the week is up…
