Hey all,
So a search for “happy porg” brought up this video. And that is the title. But this was posted in June 2015, and there isn’t a porg to be found in it. But the word does show up on a building, so… does the word “porg” have some other meaning?? And what is it? All info appreciated…
Happy Porg Video Without Any Actual Porgs
ETA: My GUESS actually is that this is a school. But the name… why?
The name on the video credits looks Czech to me, but Google Translate doesn’t give anything if you put “porg” in, and try a Czech -> English translation. I’m going to guess that it’s a proper name.
(“Ostrava”, the other word on the building, also doesn’t come back with a translation from Czech.)
Apparently the school is:
První Obnovené Reálné Gymnázium
Definitely some names there.
Wait, not names. Apparently something like Private Advanced Secondary School. Sorry, the né ending is used in names in Hungarian and I got confused.
Other than what???
You imply that we all know what a “porg” means in today’s vernacular. You state that there “isnt a porg to be found in it”, indicating that you’d know a porg if you saw one and expect that the rest of would too.
What is the default meaning to which the reference in the film would be “other”?

You seem to have a pretty good internet connection from that cave you seem to be living in.
Oddly enough, Anise seems to have an equally-adequate Internet connection, so one might just as well ask why she didn’t explain it.
In case anyone else is wondering, it turns out to be the cute bird-like creatures from Luke’s island in The Force Awakens.
3,650,000 Google hits for the term. 24,200 in Google News. She probably just took it for granted that anyone who had been anywhere near the internet in the past several months would have heard of them.
And I have it on personal experience that, if you do explain something that people think should be obvious, you get labeled as patronizing–even when you’re just trying to make sure everyone is on the same page.
Haven’t seen it yet. That’s the latest Star Wars installment, yes?
The unholy union of a penguin and a guinea pig.
It may better interested with his interests that there are non-binary porgs.
Meh. I saw the movie and forgot those things were called that. And was hesitant to google without knowing what sort of shit would come up.
Is “Star Wars” some kind of movie?
I think “movies” are those things where a sequence of images are displayed rapidly enough to fool the viewer into thinking they’re seeing motion. I’ve heard the technique has been deployed with rather impressive commercial success.
… I have every intention of seeing the thing, but there are a lot of good flicks and some of the others have taken priority. And I’m not really living under this rock, but it protects me from the rain, OK?
Huh. Sounds kind of nauseating.
