Connecting two electrical wires

It’s been 20 years since I was in the UK playing with electricity but I don’t think Wire Nuts are permitted in the UK by the current regulations.

Really? How do you connect wires then? I was a pseudo-apprentice at an electrical contractor this summer and wirenuts were all we used.

UK wiring devices are entirely unlike American - rather than joining wires with wire nuts inside a junction box, UK junction boxes have a set of screw terminals likethis one.

For comparison, here’s a very neat and tidy US-style junction with wire nuts. Sometimes, the electricians go nuts. :eek:

I’ve started using push-in connectors in boxes that have a lot of wires. They really cut down on the mess.
