"Conservative" Beliefs

lnk plz?

Sadly, there are a LOT of people who think JUST like you. Fact is, there is a mile and a foot between NEEDING help from time to time and having the ‘help’ be your only and ever source of familial income. No one should feel shame about needing a hand UP, but accepting a constant hand OUT is another story.

Right. When I somehow find myself engaging with these types of people, I cut through all the high-minded sciencey elitist crap and get to the point. So let’s just agree that man-caused global warming is a liberal conspiracy invented by Al Gore in order to take our SUVees, this means we should pollute the crap out of the planet because…?

Here.

God, I never want to wrestle with our shitpot of a search function again…

Around here? Both.

I appreciate the effort. Thanks.

Here’s a list of games played with a tarot deck:

If you accept a particular traditional religious belief without skepticism, then you are being conservative on that particuar issue.

I don’t know how far we can take this, frankly. After all, there is typically a delineation made between a person’s public and private life - and while a person who is conservative and religious in their home life is sometimes a political conservative, this is often not the case.

Mike Dukakis comes to mind here - he was an observant of a very traditional religion, was a veteran and an Eagle Scout, was married one time. He was thrifty to the point of ironing his own shirts when he was governor. Now, is this any indication of creeping conservatism, or just indications of a sedate and moderate lifestyle? He certainly wasn’t any kind of political conservative.

Not during the last Democratic administration, there wasn’t.

Well, there might have been had that matter been kept private. But in any case that is a separate discussion much hashed out here, and probably not worth revisiting now.

It’s understandable but too bad that words like “conservative” and “religious” get loaded up with a lot of baggage.

I would generally describe myself as liberal but there are some liberal ideas I completely disagree with and some traditionally conservative positions I agree with. On many issues I think both Democrats and Republicans are full of BS and I don’t feel that either side represents my viewpoint.

I would definitely describe myself as non-religious and don’t believe the supernatural episodes in the Old or New Testament really happened, but I find the lessons and parables of Jesus inspiring and try to follow many of them in my daily life. Surely people of faith can hold varying degrees of skepticism about certain events or interpret passages as they like.

If faith was meant to be adherence to literal truth based on laboratory evidence, it would be science. I’m not concerned about people who have beliefs that seem incredible to me if they label those beliefs as faith. I’m more concerned about people who believe every scientific “fact” as gospel, when experience shows that science is constantly correcting itself. Just ask the planet formerly known as Pluto.

Maybe so. That’s what I get for making a blanket statement.

Consider my ignorance on the cultural ignorance fought…

It just sorta became public all by itself, didn’t it?

Would you think that way if it hadn’t contradicted your placid, complacent little assertion?

Bolding mine. This is absolutely untrue and reveals your lack of knowledge concerning the Masonic fraternity. It would be nice if people did not post drivel as being factual without absolute proof that they are speaking the truth and not drive. If you are able to provide evidence to support your ill informed declaration, please do so bearing in mind that anecdotes do not equal data.

There is nothing in Freemasonry that prohibits the use of tarot cards, other than common sense and a lack of belief in the occult.

I don’t believe that for a second. I think he just knows he has to say it to get elected to anything in this country.

So you’re not only stupid, you can’t spell either?

I’m one of those people who believes that we’re turning the United States into a banana republic, and uncontrolled immigration is a major factor in that transformation. I take a great deal of satisfaction in the fact that you’re unable to give a rational response to anything I actually say.

No, I think I hit that right on the mark. You can deny it all you want, but your rage against all the brown people immigrating to the US and destroying our precious white European civilization speaks very clearly for you.
