I’d like to make a list of the conservatives who’ve endorsed Obama.
I’ll start with this article that cites Former Sen. Lincoln Chafee, Douglas Kmiec, Susan Eisenhower, Larry Hunter (former adviser to President Reagan and president of the Social Security Institute).
Here, there’s David Friedman (Milton’s son and professor at U-Chic).
Chuck Hagel’s another obvious one.
Who else is there. I know there’s been mentions of people like Powell and Rice, but I certainly haven’t seen them openly saying that they endorse Obama.
Apart from Kmiec, NOBODY on that list has ever been perceived as a conservative. What we’re seeing is the departure of the old Ripon Society liberal Republicans.
As for Kmiec (who had been a supporter of Mitt Romney), it remains to be seen whether he’s still a conservative who disapproves of the current GOP administration and the current GOP candidate, or whether he’s at the start of a general leftward shift.
Perhaps I should have asked about conservatives, Republicans, and former Bush Administration officials – Rita Hauser (a national intelligence expert who served in the Bush administration) – who have endorsed Obama.
I’m simply interested in knowing those of whom “should” be voting for McCain but come out supporting Obama.
