So it’s been a while since I’ve been here, but I THINK this is more suited to IMHO than GQ or MPSIMS, yet as always–mods please move as you see fit.
My partner is severely constipated. He’s been having terrible pressure and pain for the past two days now. We’ve tried Pepto, Ex-Lax (which helped a little–producing four bowel movements within six hours) and just a few minutes ago I administered an enema, though the result was disappointing; he held it in for at least ten minutes in the position, however at the end all that came out was the saline solution with only a bit of fecal matter. At this point I have decided to contact his doctor for further treatment, but as he is in considerable pain I am hoping I could get some ideas on how to relieve a bit of it now, and maybe some suggestions/opinions from those who’ve suffered from this as well. Sorry for the TMI. Cheers.
Frankly, if one of my patients reported such pains after having 4 BMs in 6 hours, I’d insist they be seen (or at least talk to me further to describe the exact symptoms), as something untoward may be occurring, such as a partial bowel obstruction becoming complete, an ischemic bowel, or something else beyond the usual FOS (full of stool) syndrome.
In short, your partner needs to talk to his doctor or other qualified personnel at this point, based on the info given.
I agree with Qadgop, if Exlax worked and provided bowel movements and it didn’t relieve the pressure and pain, that would be something I would defiantly suggest seeing a doctor for.
Oh, and Pepto is an anti-diarrhea medication, not something you should use when wanting a bowel movement.
