Construction Equipment: Nailgun Color Codes?

      • I am curious as to how much power powder-activated nailguns have. There are several color-coded different loads in at least three calibers; I was looking for info on .27. I can find places online that sell them but none that seem to explain anything about them. Hilti is the big name manufacturer in the US but their site isn’t any real help… -anybody know?

I don’t have any experience with the Hilti units, but have used Remington units in the past. The packages of fasteners used to have a table on the back that recomended a particular load for that fastener into a particular material.

.27 is a medium velocity charge/driver.

That’s general information.

There’s a color code chart here. Says Ramset…and Hilti does have a chart there:

I own a Hilti DX451, which is .27 cal. It accepts strip loads and all I’ve ever used are red and purple. This tool does have an adjustment dial to help prevent overdriving of the pin. Ramset makes a number of pins to fit Hilti, and they have all worked very well, from 1/4-20 threaded studs up to full length nails. The typical applications for this tool are: mounting sill plate to cementitious slabs (treated lumber or steel channel), securing electrical boxes and conduit straps to CMU walls, and as mentioned above, setting threaded pins for mounting items with 1/4-20 nuts and washers.

When I first went into business, I had a Remington tool that used .22 cal in the grey, yellow, and green power groups, but it was slow, loud as all getout, and didn’t have the power of the Hilti.

Hope this helps.
