contact dermatitus

What is it?
A few weeks ago, a friend gave me a autumn jacket. It was okay but not warm enough for winter.
I wore it casue it had a hood.
Ever since I wore it the back of my neck and dcalp itched.
I threw it away a week or so ago.
Went to the dr. today and he told me I had that, and gave me a cream to use.
Did she give it to me, or was I just reacting to some materialin the jacket?

Dermatitis is an inflammation of the skin. “Contact dermatitis” is a general term used to describe and inflammation which is caused by contact with an irritant. The most famous of these might be urushiol, the oil in poison ivy, poison sumac and poison oak. IIRC cashew nuts also contain urushiol (in the raw nut). So it was a reaction to something, you just really don’t know what’s itching you.

It could have been the material of the jacket. It could have been something on the jacket (perfume, aftershave, mink oil on leather, dry cleaning residue on wool, something else spilled on it). But it is not something you “catch” from someone else, it’s not a disease.

It’s a fancy way of saying some substance gave you a rash.

Don’t want that rash again? Stay away from whatever caused it (if you know).

It was the lining, which may have been a woolish thing.

I wore a shirt under it, so the only part that touched me was the hood and the bottom of the hood by my neck.
I didn’t check to see what it was made of, but will be careful in the future!
Thankfully, it wasn’t underwear.

Wool underwear is just generally a bad idea. Except for sheep.

I, myself, have never found myself attracted to the sheep that the boys had put ‘underwear’ on…
just sayin’
