Happened not long ago (BREAKING NEWS). I know that containers going for a swim isn’t an uncommon thing, but this looks like a lot of them. And as a free bonus, half of them fell on another boat.
Maybe it was sabotage by Patriots protesting the tariffs. The Long Beach Tariff Party?
I swear I read the title as, “Container ship hits an osprey in Long Beach.”
Was there tea in some of those containers?

(BTW a reporter just mentioned that fortunately, as for now, no one was reported to be injured).
Wow, that’s a lot more than just a few containers. That is going to be one hell of a lot of waterlogged merchandise soon being offered on eBay!
There was a great deal of ocean spray.
That’s weird; it looks like two separate stacks fell over, while three stacks in between them were undamaged. I’ll be interested to hear what the cause was.
They’ve replaced the original video in the link with a much longer one, if you watched it early you might want to look again.
I saw this live feed link on FB and just as I started watching another container fell off. I don’t think it will be the last.

I’ll bet the connectors for the containers that basically make them a giant cube where not in place or properly connected.
A lot of people will have a very, very bad day.
Being a birder that is how I read it, too.
I’ve found the YouTube channel “What’s Going On With Shipping” to be interesting in all matters maritime, from accident to modern pirates.
There’s my Temu order.
There’s LOTS of Temu orders.
From the article:
“I would say one or two would be an accident, you know, just getting a little too fast with the crane, but something like this is probably a major error somewhere,” said Richard Folkes, a port iron worker.
Jeez, ya think?
You can see when they fall over, they fall individually. I’ve seen container stacks fall, and they usually fall as a single unit, if the connectors are in. They can hold a lot of load.
When the ship comes in, all the above deck containers are lashed together with diagonal steel bars and above and below with twist locks, connectors that hold the corners together.
You then have the lashing crew go up and unlash all of the bays that are going to be worked next. Looks like a few of the bays were unlashed, then something happened with the ship to tip it towards the water. That’s why multiple sections of the ship went tumbling. My port has knocked the odd container into the water, usually just a mistake from the crane operator.
Probably not them as they only managed to score one touchdown last weekend. I’m thinking the Ravens, who scored 40 & still lost.
In the current vid, you can see the moment the amidships stack goes overboard. You can also see that after that time, the ship is still listing to starboard despite the overall load now be more portside than it just was.
Ehich suggests to non-expert me that the list a minutevor two ago was greater. Doesn’t seem extreme enough to cause what happened though.
I hope NTSB is involved. Their shipping accident reports are great. Once they finally appear.
Good catch, they have yet again changed the video in the original link.
