Contracting Herpes From a Water Bottle

Hi Cecil, is it possible to contract herpes from a water bottle? In particular, a co-worker has several blistering cold sores on her lip. Today, just goofing around, she squirted me with her water bottle, the one she had been drinking from all day. Needless to say the water was right on target with my face and shoulders. Should I be worried about contracting herpes? Thanks, Cali

It is possible though I suspect unlikely "Cold sores or mouth herpes can be spread by sharing the same drinking glass, lipstick, cigarette, etc. " from http://www.globalherbalsupplies.com/herpes/transmission.html

However as the rate of transmission from couples living together is only about 10% year if rudementary precautions are taken (e.g. no sex during active outbreaks) I think you are pretty safe.
You could always sue them for assault if you did get it from them. I am sure that has been used for HIV.

note to self
(i) dont need to quote OP in reply
(ii) dont need to clog up board with silly correction posts either

Have you* ever* had a cold sore? if so you already carry the virus, just like most of the population.
If you had never been exposed, the water would have had to hit you on an open wound, and left there. If you immune system were compromised, it would be more of an issue.

Thanks for the information. I’ve never had cold sores. The only open wound I had at the time was a scratch on my hand but I washed my hands with hand sanitizer shortly after I was hit with the water. I know cold sores are pretty common but I would rather not be in that percentile range for many reasons. I checked out that website posted earlier and it’s pretty good. I’ve been looking around many sites to get a clear answer of the likelyhood of getting herpes in that way but it’s not addressed anywhere. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see. Thanks, Cali
