Controversial encounters between law-enforcement and civilians - the omnibus thread #2

Yet another reason why the U.S. needs more centralized law enforcement.

I’ll bet that chief runs the town like his own little fiefdom, and terrorizes any citizen who dares to defy him. Why not? He’s built up his own private army of thugs.

More on the Kenosha Applebee’s story. I really thought the Kenosha PD would have been bending over backwards to apologize to this guy so as not to have a another round of riots (ie Kyle Rittenhouse), but instead they doubled down. They probably could have quietly dismissed the charges and given him a small settlement but they chose not to do the right thing and now Jay-Z has loaned his legal team to the victim.

A dangerous idea, assuming you mean top-down. Better would be a LESA law enforcement standards administration that would override police unions and enforce uniform standards of conduct for LEOs and LEAs. Or, maybe, some form of 100% citizen conscription (covering some military, mostly civil and collaborative skills training), to drastically reduce our reliance on enforcement professionals.

Why? Most countries around the world have top-down police forces, either at the national or province level, and while God knows none of them are perfect, at least they lack some of the problems inherent to U.S. law enforcement.

Because Americans have an irrational and nearly pathological fear of government. See also: the Republican party.

For me, not government so much as nearly every sizable organization. Those at the top lose touch with the sidewalk reality and hand down policy decisions that are often ill-considered and myopic. It happens in the business world as much as government, if not more.
One thing that would be immensely beneficial would be federal funding. Eliminate the possibility of revenue-generating enforcement by requiring every LEA to operate using federally-provided money and to return any fines and seizures to the umbrella agency.
Also, no quotas. If there is negligible crime, you must be doing your job right, so, keep up the good work.

For the moment, let’s just address this part. That’s not the way the general public, i.e. the taxpayers, will see it. If there’s negligible crime, then the cops are not needed.

Which remains an ongoing problem. The Cheeto-Faced ShitGibbon closed the CDC’s epidemic taskforce because we were not having any epidemics, so what were they any good for? It will always be difficult convincing the public that there is value to having competent people who do their job so well that it looks like they are not doing anything. But, if law enforcement funds originate at the federal level, the individual taxpayers will not be observing money being wasted at the local level because of the fungibility diffusion. Senator Proxmire has been buried in a coffin lined with his Golden Fleece.

But she was a shoplifter!

And the officer was standing in front of her slowly moving vehicle with his weapon at the ready!

It’s one thing for a cop to put themselves in a must-shoot situation when a perp presents an immediate threat to public safety. But this was not one of those situations; this was a cop putting himself in a must-shoot situation for the sole purpose of being justified in shooting the (non-dangerous) driver when she started to roll forward.

Once again, cop shoots and kills someone, then lies about how it happened. Then video show this cop and all other cops in the area to be lying-ass dogs.

He originally said the kid got out of the car and lunged at him with a knife. Video shows the kid was shot in the car with the window up.

Another cop suffering from ‘excited delirium’.

Jeez, that’s straight up murder.

Here’s the video on YT. (Warning - unedited.)

The cop walked up to his window and shot him multiple times. Murdered him.

Strange how he kept backing up as if the sound of his own gun has scared him.

I thought that only killed police victims…

in the foot continue to shoot themselves they do

One older article says that Irizarry was a black man, then has this photo of him,

That is “black”?
