I would not express it as being “in the right” – a traffic stop ended in a death. There are questions that should be asked. Did the officer have other options? Should this officer (or any officer) have been working alone? I agree this officer is probably not to blame for the outcome, but a deeper look should be taken, including at how this police department deploys its officers, and what their standard practices are when a lone officer is faced with an uncooperative and aggressive person during a traffic stop or similar non-criminal situation.
Gee whiz, I guess he really DID need to kill the guy. A whole minute of hostility? Just how much is a cop supposed to take before physically attacking the other person, losing the fight, and being “forced” to kill him for the officers own safety?
Let’s be REAL clear here, he shot Cure in the back with a taser because Cure pointed his arm up in the air. Fuck that cop, and fuck all the cop trainers who convince these guys to just fuck anyone up who isn’t bowing and scraping to their glorious cop-ness.
I just watched the first few minutes. That cop was hostile and threatening from the beginning. HE made it a dangerous situtioin.
Bingo.
I see that you are not aware of this thread’s alternate title ‘All cops are bad cops all the time’.
Yeah, I probably posted this in the wrong thread, and after I posted I saw that it is also in the Miscarriage of Justice thread, which is probably a better place for it. A tragic situation all around, but there isn’t too much to criticize the cop for, at least not at the point where he used force. I think that any person who knew about Cure’s history would understand why he would react poorly to being told that he was under arrest, but a cop on the side of the road doesn’t need to take that into consideration when he is being assaulted.
It’s mostly when they kill people because they’re bad at their jobs. It only seems like all cops all the time because this happens multiple times a day.
Maybe they should, y’know, stop doing that.
He pleads not guilty, but agrees he’s in urgent need of a mental health evaluation.
“Cash only” means he has to put up the whole bond not just the 10% thing?
Pretty much. It means a bail bondsman is right out. Which means he sits in jail, where he belongs.
Until he gets badly needed treatment.
Uniformed cop accused of breaking into ex’s home and harassing new girlfriend
A woman is speaking out after her boyfriend’s ex — a cop — allegedly broke into their home while armed and in uniform and confronted the couple.
Unstable, armed and paid by the government.
Further information on the incident discussed upthread, in which Birmingham police officers tazed and arrested high school band director Johnny Mims. More body cam footage shows a discussion between an officer and Mims, during which officers say that students on the bus have been maced, and they are unsure whether or not medical attention is needed. The officer speaking with Mims, apparently belatedly realizing that there might be PR ramifications, had this to say:
Perhaps, if you care about children and want them to trust the police, you could start by having the police not mace them.
Thanks for the update. I was wondering about that incident earlier this week.
I’m baffled at the officer whining about how everything is all screwed up, complaining about having to fix all this… to the guy in handcuffs. Who was tased a little while ago. Whose students have just been maced by other cops. And the cop is complaining.
Yes, officer “we” need to fix this.
Meaning the body cam videos won’t support their coverup and they need to figure out a way around that?
Your description elides a lot. What violent actions did Cure take, prior to the tasing? Non-compliance is not a justification for assault. Or was the tasing the first act of violence?
