Just disgusting.
Some LEOs look for any excuse to kill an animal, even if it’s a pet, while on duty. It’s a sick and disturbing fantasy; they want to kill something, anything, and get away with it.
I witness a close call along these lines many years ago. I had access to a GPR system at the time, and a county sheriff asked if I would scan the grounds around a rural property and look for buried bodies. (The owner was in prison for multiple murders.) While I was rolling the GPR system over the grass, the neighbor’s dog came up to the fence and started barking. One of the deputies went up to the fence, assumed a very aggressive stance, put his hand on his pistol, and started screaming at the dog and the owner. He was unhinged. The other deputies watched him and just shrugged their shoulders. I thought he was going to shoot the dog, but the owner finally came out to get him. (Remember, there was a fence.) He continued to stare into the neighbor’s property for a least a couple more minutes, before going back to what he was doing before (talking with his buddies).
