Controversial encounters between law-enforcement and civilians - the omnibus thread #2

There is a sliding scale of human worth that police seem to work off. It isn’t universal, but it definitely seems tightly linked to race and income.

Slate had a good brief review of how this fits in with a number of recent incidents:

None of those girls did anything that could even begin to justify the abuse they received. Adults often excuse their egregious actions toward Black children by leaning into stereotypes that Black kids, especially girls, are defiant, unruly, and “bad.” In their minds, these kids have to be reeled in and the only way to do that is with force. Black children are seen as older, nefarious, and inherently violent. They are afforded no innocence or understanding. Often, they are blamed for the violence inflicted upon them. None of the officers who responded to that 911 call in Rochester, at least none on video, thought to meet a screaming child with compassion or anything other than pulling at her arms, throwing her into the snow in 17 degree weather, and spraying her in the face with an irritant.

She was in the seat, right? She could have nutted him with a swift kick.

Aren’t you supposed to say ‘she’s coming right for us’ first?

While I try not to assume anything, the officer appears to be lacking in the nut department.

Is qualified immunity going to go away?

I would like to think so, but this case doesn’t really tell us very much, one way or the other.

Maybe Rick Schroder can help!

I guess they made no attempt to make he was their guy before shooting him.

“Officers attempted life-saving measures, but they were unsuccessful. Emergency medical personnel from the Idaho Falls Fire Department also responded and were also unable to provide any lifesaving aid to the man,” Johnson said.

I guess he was a white guy.

Dollars to donuts that the guy who was shot (and armed) was out looking to “help”, hoping to be a hero.

That’s a pretty safe guess for Idaho Falls. It appears the person they were really hunting down was white so I’m guessing the mistaken identity was as well.

I meant we knew he was white because “Officers attempted life-saving measures".

As opposed to the Ohio cops who mistakenly shot a black man holding a cell phone and did NOT attempt life-saving measures, or comforting measures, or treat him like a human being measures…

Beverly Hills cops are playing copyrighted music while being filmed by activists so that the people filming them can’t post the videos on social media, because the social media platforms will take the clips down for violating copyright.

Huh, I wonder how B.M.E. Music Group feels about that. They go after people who play music in public without a license. Be funny if they go after these cops.

Doh! Yes, very true.

Duh.

Another ‘Cops are horrible people’ article:

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/firing-upheld-for-officers-who-mocked-elijah-mcclains-chokehold-death/ar-BB1dAx6s

Cops had mistakenly detained, choke-holded and killed a young black man.

At the memorial, three cops take a selfie mocking the man’s tragic death and send to one the cops involved in the death ‘to cheer him up’.

Did you notice that these guys have been disciplined more harshly than the cops who choked the guy to death. I guess looking bad is still worse than actually doing bad.

Guess who’s fault it was that a 9-year-old Black girl got pepper sprayed!

They just got fired. The others are racist pigs that may yet be charged as murderers.

“may yet be” is the operative phrase.
