Controversial encounters between law-enforcement and civilians - the omnibus thread #2

Well THIS isn’t good:

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/deputies-say-gangs-exist-within-los-angeles-sheriffs-department/ar-BB1e0DeL

“They operate as a gang. They commit crimes, they assault people,” one deputy told CBS News’ Maria Elena Salinas.

The deputy said the gang is based out of East L.A., and that members who have become Banditos there have been promoted and “they’ve spread all over the county.”

While I think it is good to see the charge I am highly doubtful there will be a conviction.

WTF Chief? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

York, who turned his own body camera off on his way to the scene

Somehow this is still a thing officers can do without repercussion. Fuck him.

A little long but worth a watch.

As soon as a police officer deliberately turns his own body camera off, he should be considered to no longer an officer, and is simply a civilian with a gun acting illegally. This is how his crimes should be treated.

At the point he turns the camera off, he has effectively resigned from the force, and turned into a rogue vigilante.

Certainly turning off the body camera should render any of his testimony suspect and remove any presumption of innocence.

It also indicates a measure of premeditation.

As in “I’m going to beat the hell out of this guy, so I better start concealing the evidence now”

A search of Amazon, Ebay, and Aliexpress results in lots of things called “police body cameras” ranging in price from $20-200. Maybe these should become standard accessories for protesters, joggers, and the like. Even criminals could use them, because they can always securely erase the video once they get away. “Your own video clearly shows you rolling through the stop sign before you were pulled over, and your kids forced to lie face down in the snow.”

Well, nothing will remove the presumption of innocence. I agree that it makes any of his testimony suspect. Too bad grand juries don’t see it that way.

They have told us how much a black life matters. Just a little over a week’s pay.

How fucking dumb can a cop be? How about dumb enough to sext a 15-year-old girl that came to the station to report a crime? Texts don’t leave any evidence trail, do they?

"insufficient established facts to demonstrate that the officer’s belief was unreasonable’

The officer’s belief?

“All n***** are armed thugs and are itching to kill us righteous white people!! Even the little ones!”

  • I hate using the word, but you know that’s the one in their minds.

Your link went to a very bad page with a video that didn’t like to play and had no other information; I found this instead:

And the details bear quoting so they are preserved in this thread and available for all to see:

He went to homes with children inside and set the homes on fire.

Amongst other horrific things. All while wearing a badge.

To be fair, most if not all of these were after he was fired. But still…WTF???

But, but, they have extensive testing and training to join…

Well I’m a high school grad I’m over 5 foot 3
I’ll get a badge and a gun and I’ll join the P.D.
