Controversial encounters between law-enforcement and civilians - the omnibus thread

Did you listen to the video?

Or you accusing me of lying about what the officer said?

The officer said it, but I’d be interested in knowing how many tickets he issued for the same offense in the previous twelve months. I know there’s little or no record of the hundreds he let off with just a warning.

Poll: [del]hands up [/del]if you have ever been ticked for signalling for too short a period?

Crickets.

No, strike that. HANDS UP, DON’T SHOOT!

You know, in Sandra Bland’s case people were trying to be just as snarky about the “failure to signal” ticket. The county published the officer’s ticket record. He gave quite a few such tickets prior to Bland’s, several of them to white drivers.

Well here is the evidence that such tickets (signaling the turn for too short a distance) are not rare: http://www.blakedore.com/turn-signal-ticket/

That’s the evidence? That’s an Oregon law firm’s website. The fuck relevance does that have? Also, tell me, what is the frequency of ticketing for that violation per that website?

The law is the same in Ohio.

Well the title of the article is “Top Traffic Tickets: The Turn Signal Ticket”.

Are ticketing practices the same in both states?

So tell me where in that article I can find the frequency. You offered the “evidence.”

There is no exact frequency. But if it is among “Top Traffic Tickets” it is not rare. Which is what I said.

Beng called “among the top traffic tickets” on a lawyer’s website says nothing about how common or rare it is.

Rank does not equal frequency. Oregon does not equal Ohio. This does not equal “evidence.”

What would have been evidence is the frequency with which this particular cop cited this particular infraction. What you posted was just irrelevant and stupid.

I disagree. “Top traffic tickets” implies it’s not rare.

What else could it possibly imply? How fascinating the traffic ticket is?

…and “Patriot Act” implies it’s patriotic, even if it isn’t. “New & Improved” implies that it’s new and also improved, even if it isn’t. “New York Times Bestseller” implies a book was popular, even if only 1 person bought all forty zillion copies.

“Implies” is not the same as “means”.

Oh, and you’re a douchebag. I’m not implying that; you really are a douchebag.

Texas cops shoot Hispanic guy who had his hands up

The sheriff’s department issued a statement complaining about the TV broadcast of the video. And the poor abused department has been “bombarded with inappropriate comments”. Their statement calls the TV station’s airing “unethical and sad” and asks folks to call the station and complain.

Cops responding burglary report go the the wrong house, shoot the owner and kill his dog.

Best part is that the guy they shot is also a cop.

I’m not sure the homeowner is an officer. I thought the homeowner AND an officer were wounded (and the dog killed).

Yeah, the news report is not very clear, but suggests two injuries and one canine fatality.

Wow; that’s some bullshit there. I hope the DOJ or FBI or somebody is looking into the Bexar County Sherriff’s Office.

Jeez, their Facebook post couldn’t be more assholey. I’ve never seen a police department try to start a public campaign against the media.

Today, members of our local media chose to broadcast online unedited video of a man’s death. KSAT 12 paid a neighbor who filmed the tragedy $100 for the exclusive rights to the video. As a result, people from outside our community have bombarded us with inappropriate comments, and today, physical threats toward our deputies. These deputies have not been charged with a crime and a family lost their loved one. This is unethical and sad. Call KSAT and let them know what you think - (210) 351-1277. If you agree, let the local media know this sort of sensational behavior doesn’t fly in Bexar County.

Yeah, only BULLETS should fly in Bexar, like Jesus intended.

Yeah, we agree, man !
