Controversial encounters between law-enforcement and civilians - the omnibus thread

I have a feeling this story may wind up like the Ferguson shooting. In Ferguson, the “innocent teen shot in the back by racist cop” turned out to be “nasty thug ten minutes off a strong-arm robberty shot after trying to grab the officer’s gun and punching him in the face”. In this story, “innocent black shot while handcuffed while attending a party” may turn into “serial abuser breaks his girlfriend’s ankle, tries to stop the paramedics from attending her and gets shot while trying to grab the officer’s gun”.

But let’s throw some rocks at the police anyway. Because Asshole Lives Matter.

The important thing is that we find ways to dismiss the concerns of Black Lives Matter – because after all, if it turns out that one of the shootings may have actually been justified, that means none of the concerns matter and black people are not disproportionately mistreated by police.

No, the important thing is that even when Black Lives Matter is wrong, racismracismracismracismracismracismracism.

To be clear to those not living in Minnesota, the local BLM people are a bunch of morons. They keep choosing to march down the middle of rush-hour freeways (and only like 20-50 of them, not hundreds or thousands doing this) to get attention and making specious claims in the media.

Not that I agree with Shodan’s claims.

We know this because that’s the story the officer told. And police never lie.

I just want to chime in and say that I fully support BLM to be the biggest sets of asses that they can be; more power to them. Disrupt stuff. When you’re angry and fed up, it’s your duty to show it. This is not business as usual.

I can’t repeat this enough. Get angry. Get people angry too. Get them angry at you. Get them as angry as you are angry. This is not business as usual.

Of course get focused, get organised, speak with knowledge and intelligence, yadda yadda yadda but get angry! And goddamnit show your anger! More power to them.

In Ferguson? No, it was established by the evidence.

“Speaking with intelligence” is different from blocking the highway when I am trying to get to work because some abusive asswipe broke his girlfriend’s ankle and tried to grab the cop’s gun. Pretty much the opposite, in fact.

Unless this is a whoosh.

Nope, actions and speech go beautifully together.

They’re protesting police mistreatment of black people, not an individual incident.

If by evidence you mean “the word of the police officer” then I agree. And since police never lie, here we are.

They were referencing a specific incident.

The incident in question is the one where the convicted armed robber and abuser tried to grab the cop’s gun when they tried to prevent him from interfering with paramedics who were trying to treat his girlfriend’s ankle, which he had broken.

No, all the evidence that was presented at the grand jury. That’s what I mean. Things like the autopsy, the videotape of Brown robbing the convenience store, things like that.

No one said that police never lie. It was established that Darren Wilson did not lie. It was also established that those who claimed that Michael Brown was shot in the back were lying.

Shodan

It was established that the prosecution was unable to prove that Darren Wilson lied, which is consistent with my understanding that police never lie.

They were protesting a pattern, and mentioning specific incidents. You understand this, right? That they mention individual incidents as part of a much larger and long-term pattern?

If some of the incidents may have been justified, that doesn’t take anything away from the larger point. I trust that black people, as a group, aren’t any more dishonest about how they are truly treated in America then they were 50, 100, or 200 years ago, in which they were by far the most accurate source of information for how black people were really treated in America.

Who is this “We” that you’re referring to?

The forensic evidence proved that some asshole robbed a store, attacked the store’s clerk, attacked a police officer, and was shot in the chest while he was rushing at the officer.

Good enough for me. Case closed!

Hahahaha. You’re a hoot. “Get angry”, grrrrrrr. Repeat it as often as you wish. People will notice you. People will think you’re an asshole. People will think you have a screw loose. The media will appreciate the opportunity to sell airtime reporting your “angry person on display”.

Currently, people are tolerating your entertaining actions. But what happens if everyone takes your advice? Groups of people shouting at groups of people shouting at groups of people. Violence and hilarity ensues.

People will think I’m an asshole?!? I am an asshole. I become a loud asshole when I see injustice. I turn into a disruptive asshole when I see systematic injustice.

Let them shout, etc. I want to see how far others are willing to defend the status quo. I want to see how far I’m willing to fight against it.

I use ‘I’ but as a Canadian I’m, personally, quite safe far away from the batons and pepper spray of the trigger happy police.

So you’re just trying to start fight that you have no intention of being a part of. How brave of you.

Are you sure you’re a member of the “EH” team?
