Controversial encounters between law-enforcement and civilians - the omnibus thread

The cops asked Facebook to disable the account Korryn Gaines Full Videos From Traffic Stop & Standoff

To me that’s like shutting off the body cams so there isn’t an video evidence.

Meh, communications isolation is hardly a new tactic, this is just a new medium.

Yeah, but you don’t need to isolate her once you have shot her.

Report: Chicago agency had no records on 6 police shootings

The agency that investigates officer-involved shootings is in the dark.

“We can only report about what the Police Department notifies us about,”

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Chicago releases ‘shocking’ video of police shooting unarmed teen

Well it’s not shocking in Chicago.

Apparently fb is making the account go invisible but not restricting the account holder from posting.

So the video would be saved, but the general user base would not see it until fb unlocks the visibility restrictions.

Oh FFS. I saw this on the news ecently, and I don’t even live in the US.

I feel much better knowing that the UK (which is where I live) doesn’t have mad gun-happy police forces who shoot at the earliest given opportunity!

When will the US police forces have the right to shoot like this removed/revoked?

Unless the guns are taken away, this will continue to happen. These police offers shouldn’t be shooting people like this! Imagine if we, the general public, started shooting the cops like this!

Whenever a cop shoots someone like this, when the person that has been shot, did not carry out a life threatening action to another person (which he clearly didn’t), then the police officer(s) involved should be immediately charged and tried for MURDER. And with evidence like that, they’d be convicted - and hopefully killed.

After all, a life for a life; if the police shoot someone like this, then the police should be shot themselves!

Rant over…

FYI, I had the experience of working with a local cop this weekend and he showed how his body cam worked. It was attached to his vest via a magnet, so I can see how the camera might be dislodged in a struggle. However, this would not explain how the cameras “fail” from a distance when there is a shooting involved without physical contact.

Perhaps these police cameras have a “parental control” setting, where scenes that are violent or sexual in nature are censored for our protection?

Those of us who are not cops would not be using live rounds in this type situation.

She was attacking him with a banana!

Release the tiger.

Why were they using real guns at all? Christ, buy a cap gun for this.

The Justice Dept’s report on Baltimore’s police looks pretty damning based on my reading so far, though I haven’t read the whole report yet. Some examples: more random searches on black people with less cause and less findings of contraband; Baltimore cops escalate encounters to violence without reason; they had been warned of dangerous transportation practices prior to Freddie Gray’s death; and they don’t seriously investigate sexual assault reports.

“Oh they just need more training”

FUCK THAT SHIT

They need to clean house and fire these motherfuckers. Enmasse.

I disagree. When a cop does something against the law, Smapti believes it’s the cop that’s right. Because no citizen is above the law unless he happens to have a badge.

I work for the state. If someday I shoot my coworker to death, I’ll explain that I simply need more training.

The Baltimore mayor is black, the police chief is black, the city council is 2/3 black. Since Baltimore blacks are in control, they can have any kind of police force they want–and the current situation is what they have chosen.

From that article:

But, but…how can that be? According to Smapti, “bad apples” are extremely rare. And to believe otherwise makes you an anarchist.
