Controversial encounters between law-enforcement and civilians - the omnibus thread

Roadside drug tests produce a lot of false positives:

Huh. Wrong 1/4th of the time ? Good, sound tool. Better than a coin toss, even !

Good enough for the **S&S **brothers for who Law Enforcement can do no wrong.

If roadside drug tests are as inaccurate as these articles say they are, then no, the police shouldn’t be using them.

So, are you finally admitting there might be flaws in “The System”?

Seems like a big step up to reality for you, Sampti.

Half of the false positives ended up being other illegal drugs, though, so it was more like 1/10 of the time.

If the tools “The System” is using are flawed, then they need to be refined or replaced. Justice is not served when people are falsely convicted due to pseudoscience.

(PS: You spelled my name wrong.)

My apologies, but what do you think happens if your name is mis-spelled in some database?

Exactly “who” are you going to explain to “who” it’s a mistake, or are you going to be fucked with to no end?

Just because you railroad someone who actually is guilty of **a **crime doesn’t mean the system works. Similarly, your crack-o-meter pinging for someone who’s just smoked a fat bowl isn’t a win for your crack-o-meter.

The tools that are flawed are police officers. You are correct. Many, many need to be replaced.

My guess = Smapti: “That’s unpossible!”

Here’s a YouTube showing John Kasich being ticketed for a traffic law violation. Later, Kasich complains that the cop (who appears black) treated him disrespectfully. Instead the whole episode is on film; the cop treats Kasich very respectfully, and certainly doesn’t shoot or even taze Kasich.

I guess there’s one standard for white cops encountering black drivers, and a separate standard for black cops encountering white drivers.

Or is it the same standard? In either case, the black needs to put his tail between legs and say “Yes, Massah.”

I’m sure that’s a perfectly cromulent S&S world view.

Wow! After all these posts, you nail the issue exactly. Thanks for the insight!

That officer does not appear black to me. Here is another video where you can see him more clearly, but the video you posted was clear enough for me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-mgtR5mQKM

Kentucky judge outraged that jail officials sent a female prisoner to court with no pants (after holding her for three days in jail with no pants or sanitary devices).

I commend and applaud Judge Amber Wolf for her class and her restraint.

From Australia this time: Melbourne police officer allegedly shoots man three times, plants knife on body.

Cops shoot, kill woman barricaded with little boy wounded in Baltimore standoff – New York Daily News http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/crime/bs-md-co-police-barricade-20160801-story.html They shot her and there are a few questions like who shot the child (I thought he was sitting with his mom who was pointing “a long gun” at the police?) and whether any of the police involved were wearing a body camera.

And one more question: who took down Korryn’s videos? https://www.rt.com/usa/354330-baltimore-police-korryn-gaines/

Not a decisive answer but from FB community standards page

bolding mine, broadcasting to FB while you are in the middle of a police standoff IMHO could fall into that classification.
