Controversial encounters between law-enforcement and civilians - the omnibus thread

Bad cops rarely fired for Bad Behavior

Stop hiring ‘Gypsy’ cops!

Bullshit

Yes!!! Not complying with an officer and heading back to your car where you could have a weapon is enough justification to be shot by a taser. They should have tasered him sooner.

I’m not saying that there is some acceptable level of murder but sometimes the media can magnify a problem beyond proportionality.

Let me amend that response a bit.

Rioting is stupid, wrong, and destructive.

But if this completely de-legitimizes their cause, do you also refuse to support any sports team whose fans riot? Does it de-legitimize the team and the entire league?

Rioting is a symptom of disease. That disease (Dis-Ease, or not at ease) is one of not listening and not caring. We have huge injustices and inequities in this world and in our nation. We can do better.

Well, that was fucked up. You won’t get an argument from me on that.

You also won’t get an argument from me about the actual shooting of Terence Crutcher.

But, the tasering that immediately preceded the shooting? Yeah I think that was justified.

It depends on the non-compliance.

If I am engaging in a sit in at the Wisconsin state capital building eating free pizza being sent to me by people all over the country (wtf? nobody can send some sodapop?) and refuse to budge, then cops can’t shoot me for non-compliance.

If I am told to drop the gun and I don’t drop the gun, then I can be shot.

Translation: I didn’t read the cite.

FTFY too.

That might be the result of what the news is reporting on.

I feel that the punishment for “good” cops lying should be conspiracy after the fact to murder.

OK so how many do you think there are?

I don’t think that. Its obviously not true. That social worker was doing everything right and they STILL shot him.

Do you think the police are more or less abusive today than 50 years ago? 30 years ago?

I am firmly in the camp that our current standards are fine. We need more body cameras and dash cams etc. Noone wants to live under a microscope but this I am perfectly willing to impose on cops that much at least.

No its not absolute. But in a functioning democracy, its pretty damn close.

Wut?

Regardless of the results of this trial, she should not be on the force anymore if she can get “stress deafness” (I think I get that sometimes when I am watching a close game and my wife is yelling directly into my ear).

Wow, now all you need is a reference to Hitler.

The Video will not be released…

That changes things a little bit.

Yes, but let’s be real. It is very rare for a cop to even be charged for a shooting, and it ONLY happens when there is video of it. And even then, it’s rare to get a guilty verdict.

I wish it did.

God Almighty appears on clouds from heaven before a meeting of conspiracy theorists. He says that the government had nothing to do with 911, Oswald acted alone, and they should all go home.

One theorist in the crowd turns to his friend. “Wow - the conspiracy goes deeper than we thought!”

Unless you go to UC Davis, in which case you get pepper sprayed with industrial strength pepper spray.

Florida cop accused of sending ‘sorry I tased you’ cake to woman he shot with Taser

Jesus, what an absolute bastard! WTF, it’s outrageous that he should express remorse, albeit in the rather cheeky form of a humorous cake.

Come on, is this really so bad that she needs to sue the guy (again)? If I were tased by a cop and got this cake afterwards I’d smile, especially if the tasing were owing to my own behavior.

You see that as an expression of remorse?
