Saying the police are using military tactics is ridiculous hyperbole.
As you say later, the bosses of the police are the public. It’s obvious that unions will create or exacerbate that divide. Unions also create a divide between workers and the government, workers and other, non-unionised workers, and between them and the public who see the unfairness they promote. This isn’t the 1920s, and worker’s rights are enshrined in law. The only valid function of a union these days is to ensure those rights are recognised, by funding legal action.
No, the people who protest against the police who are doing their jobs, and lump all police together as bad guys, are the ones who are causing or exacerbating that divide. There are several hundred, at minimum, posts in this thread doing just that.
Where a section of the public is lying about the police, or actually breaking the law, they need to change. Just as the police need to change when they are doing that.
Is it not this thread where MrDibble has explicitly said he’d prefer not to have any police? In one of these threads, iiandyiiii has said that having a police force does more harm than good to black communities.
Apart from that, there are many people here who have disdain and disrespect for the police in general. They are entitled to that view, but the consequences of it are obvious, and obviously negative.
Those are not things that should apply to only some workers depending on the whims of a union, they should where necessary be legal requirements that apply to all workers.
Would you not rather be paid what you’re worth, not what a group of vaguely similar workers are assessed as being worth by a third party? The only reason to support collective bargaining is if you’re a crap worker who’s not worth what you are being paid, and not willing to improve to the point where you are.
The answer is to enshrine the necessary worker’s protections in law, and prevent unions from adding any extra protections into contracts.
One way, and I’ve kept bringing it up is, to stop treating these “just a few bad apples” as being only a disciplinary issue. Stop coddling them. Use the witnesses, testimony, and video to charge and convict them.
I doubt the union could successfully reinstate a bad cop who was charged and convicted on a felony.
If the union and its members try to have walk-out or a “bleu flu” over it, do what Reagan did to air traffic controllers - fire the lot of them and start anew.
Surprisingly, walkouts and blue flu’s in the past did NOT result in all the scary bullshit that is always predicted.
In the meanwhile more should be done to retain, promote, and otherwise reward the good cops.
The problem with that is that many of the bad cops aren’t necessarily breaking the law, or at least can’r be proven to a criminal standard to be so. It shouldn’t take a criminal conviction to get rid of an employee who’s breaking the rules, the two things should be separate - and that applies to every worker, not just the police.
And the unions are responsible for the contracts that would prevent the mass firing of cops for such a walkout. You’d need to weaken the union first, then change the contract.
Unless you want to abolish contracts of employment as well…
Agreed. It’d be great to be able to do that, but unions prevent it.
So…you’re utterly unable to back up anything you claim I said? Of course not, you’re a lying sack of shit. I presume your parents raised you better; you should call them and apologize for what you’ve turned into.
I happen to agree with you, but the likelihood of that happening in the land of the free is vanishingly small, so i’ll take the protection of the union when i can get it.
This is fucking idiotic in all sorts of ways, and reflects a stunning ignorance of both history and current reality.
I agree about enshrining more protections into law, but i don’t see the need to prevent unions from negotiating particular agreements with employers.
I agree, although there have been instances of police behavior over recent years that (should) have been bad enough to warrant termination, but are not actually felonies. We need better mechanisms to enforce not just the law, but the rules by which police are supposed to abide while working.
One possible solution, i guess, is to give more police rules the force of law. That is, if something is currently just a rules violation, but is considered important enough that it could compromise police integrity, then make it a misdemeanor or a felony instead. Some will complain that this is unfair on the police, but we allow them to play by different rules from the rest of us when it comes to things like using force and firing weapons, so i think it’s only fair that we hold them to a higher standard all around.
You can’t hold the cops to a higher standard. That is racist to to do things to them because they belong to that group. The regular laws that apply to everyone will sort it out.
If you dig about you will come across laws holding people who hold a position of influence and authority being held to higher standards, e.g. a teacher who has sex with their minor student who is over the age of sexual consent over whom the teacher holds a position of influence and authority.
I was being sarcastic with my post. We have a D-bag who polishes cops guns that doesn’t think there needs to be extra laws that make cops different than regular people.
Bullshit. It has fuck all to do with ALL unionized public service jobs, so stop fucking lying. It IS limited to the fucking police, because their bad apples are the fucking problem.
When there are witnesses, a dead body, and enough evidence for the Feds to get involved, what the fuck kind of evidence do you need? And when the police departments themselves have official records of the “excessive force” guys acting besides.
Looking the other way, failing to properly report it, lying to the judge, and planting or hiding evidence to cover your buddies IS conspiracy. People go to jail for CONSPIRACY.
Farmers and fishermen are not the ones killing people or “just” framing or maiming them. And finally, enough with this “respeck da po-leece”. Respeck mah authoritayh!
They need to show courtesy and respect TOO. If they won’t, get another job.
So no, you stupid fascist bastard, you are wrong. ALL the way around. So kindly shut your damn pie hole.
Yeah, this douche nozzle we got here talks like there should be NO standards for police, they only standard is how subservient their victims should be.
