Controversial encounters between law-enforcement and civilians - the omnibus thread

Yet these days it’s hard to get a stolen car investigated.

So was witchcraft. Are you realizing that you’re acting like an idiot yet?

Fortunately for get lives, being a complete idiot isn’t a hanging offense nowadays either.

How stupid. Are you both justifying what these cops did? If not, what’s your point?

Surviving a [del]Bear[/del] Police Encounter.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahaha

Do you sometimes get the feeling that someone on your side of the argument isn’t really on your side of the argument and is just trying to make your side look stupid? Yeah, I’m calling false flag on get lives.

My friend drew this. So interesting to see it spread across the web.

We don’t want him either.

That’ll work for me.

I don’t strive to be part of a side.

Of course not. You strive to make one side look as reactionary and ridiculous as possible. Good job.

You don’t have to be very smart to trend lefty. Two plus two equals four pretty much covers it. To be a Republican, however, that demands intellectual heft and creativity to fashion complex rationalizations for why the bleeding obvious just ain’t so.

Restraint of Pregnant Inmates Is Said to Persist in New York Despite Ban

Since 2000 it has been against department policy and since 2009 against the law to handcuff women in labor. Yet the practice continues.

But the worst part is that official records say the women were not handcuffed.

One wonders why, but I saw this embedded in the article:

I’m guessing that the “extra person” is actually getting a nice break away from the routine of prison guarding.

I’m not a woman, but I can’t imagine a women in labor being able to escape a prison guard and run to freedom while giving birth and wearing a hospital gown. Handcuffing them is probably akin to the handcuffing of corpses that they do.

Trying to see it from the perspective of the participants. There is a huge negative connotation to “horse thief”, perhaps the idea of it made these cops really really angry.

I don’t strive for anything in particular. Opinions lead to tribalism, and I feel too much pain over injustices committed by any group I’m a self-described member of to want to voluntarily call myself a member of any group.

Maybe they need anger management classes? Police work needs to be done with a cool head. And the last time horse thievery actually deserved its former extremely negative reputation was nearly a century ago. Way to stay current, troll.

Here’s one that just popped up on Newser. A fleeing suspect, in San Berbardino County, CA, eventually got caught after stealing car then a horse and going into a canyon-like area, and was laying prone ‘spread eagle’ as if in surrender (after being Tased?). It appears that there was zero attempt to take him into actual custody as appropriate until around 11 deputiess had gotten in at least 37 kicks, punches, and baton slams (per story anyways). Story says it appears at least 13 of the ‘strikes’ appear to be to suspect’s head alone!

It does sound good that the Sheriff is rather disturbed by what the news helicopter caught on footage. Bet they say he was resisting whenever his body moved during the assualt. It looks like he was held down so others could pummel him, rather than try to cuff him and take control until after the beating went on awhile. Kinda sick that a few LEO’s are standing back watching this apparently unfazed by what was happening, but possibly they wanted to distance themselvess from what they knew was wrong (?).

We’ll see where this goes as far as what the LEO’s say their reason was for the beatdown rather than restraing him upon his surrendering and treating him as a typical ‘prisoner in custody’.

Dude, contact 'Newser" whatever that is and tell them to read the last two pages @ The Dope.

Mayhaps they’ll catch on.

Feel good story ends on a down note. Read the first comment also.
