Converting female sizes to their male equivalent

Recently I’ve discovered certain things about myself, and I am in need of knowing how to convert women’s clothing sizes to their male equivalent.

No, actually, I’m planning on doing a couple of different drag things for Halloween and I need some size help. I’ve gone to a couple of websites which cater to cross-dressers, TVs and TGs but they all seem to assume that you know your sizes before you get there. Some help converting women’s number sizes to men’s letter sizes would be greatly appreciated.

Go to a site like Landsend that gives all the women’s sizes in inch measurements, and then take your measurements and find the corresponding ones on the women’s chart,.

jeez Otto…

I sat here and sat here and sat here waiting for the rest of the post to download… then suddenly realized it was done

Here I was, clicking on your thread, all ready to make a drag show joke, and dammit, it wouldn’t be funny now…

Best o’ luck mate… hope the leg shaving goes well…

Gotta agree with Mama Tiger’s advice - women’s sizes can vary a good bit between manufacturers, and they aren’t sized sensibly like men’s clothes are, with measurements printed on the tags.

Or you could go to a resale place–like St. Vincent de Paul’s–and try on stuff until you get a feel for your range.

No help on the sizes, I’m afraid, but this looks like a good spot to drop this little story.

At a S-F convention, one of the panels in the costumer’s track was cross-dressing costuming. One of the guys mention remembering getting his first bra. He had two pieces of advice:

Bring a friend who’s conversant with male-ese and female-ese for translating services.

You get a lot more co-operation from the fitter if you tell her, It’s For a Costume.

He also said he quickly learned what every woman knows. There are your all day shoes, your two-hour shoes, and your walk across the stage shoes.

Something a tailor once told me which I’ve found to be pretty accurate is add 21 to your size if you’re a woman and that would be the waist size you get. For example, I wear a 9 and so I’d get size 30 mens’ cut jeans. Works pretty good for me. So I would guess if you wear a 36, you’d try to get a 14 or 16, but as they all said, make sure you try it on as womens’ sizes are notorious for not being standardized.
