Convince me, PS4 or XBOX One

The Xbox One can stream to Twitch. Awesome!

Or maybe that’s a bad thing. :kappa:

I suppose this isn’t rhetorical, but it might as well be.

Xbox Music, Skype, SkyDrive, Bing, One Guide off the top of my head. PS4 doesn’t offer anything comparable that I’m aware of.

I’m not a Xbox Live user, but I think you’d have to be a Sony fanboy to seriously argue that PSN is better than XBL in any aspect other than price.

XBOne trounces PS4 in Day One apps as well and that’s not going to change either, due to Windows 8 it’s unlikely that any 3rd party app will be superior on the Sony machine.

I’m sure there’s something Sony has that is better, but on balance it’s not really close.

Even that is no longer true. Sony plans to charge for online play with the PS4 the same as Microsoft charges for the Xbox.

To me, most of the “functionality” that either system offers is pretty useless. I’m not going to use my game console to stream music, surf/search the internet, or manage files.

My PS3 lets me stream Netflix and Hulu+ onto my TV for free, though. My xBox wanted to charge me for the privilege.

At the end of the day I think it comes down to whether you want to play multiplayer, and which system the majority of your friends play on. If all my buddies had an xBox, I’d probably still have my xBox.

That’s true. They won’t charge, however, for Netflix and the like.

I’m torn between the two consoles right now. I want a PS4 but by brothers are refusing to even consider anything other than an XBone.

PS4 has a few free to play games that you might want to consider if you don’t have them on PC. Warframe, War Thunder, Blacklight: Retribution, Planetside 2. Everquest Next is being considered.

Totally disagree with this. I’m not a fanboy or either platform and am not going to get either console yet - the best advice in this thread has been - “wait”
I own both current gen consoles and PSN+ has one feature alone that makes it the clear winner, overcoming all benefits that XBL has (and i’ll happily admit, things like the user interface are better on XBL, and anyone who goes into PS Home is a loon)
Free games - (well, free with the subs) I have no idea if this carries over to ps4, but I have saved so much money playing both AAA and indie titles that I actually really wanted to play, not the usual ‘free’ rubbish.
I even had to upgrade my HDD for extra capacity - couldn’t play the games fast enough to keep up.

PS+ will be giving away free games on PS4. First 2 are Resogun and Contrast. Contrast replaced Drive Club when DC was pushed back. DC will still be a PS+ freebie when it’s released. X-Box 360 has Games with Gold. The promotion ends 12-31 with no plans to include X-Box One games currently. The 360 games are yours to keep even without a Gold sub.

Sony Music Unlimited, Skype is on the Vita so maybe later on the PS4, PS4 has cloud game saves only so SkyDrive is a win.

What does Bing do that Google doesn’t?(no snark) OneGuide is a win for the One but I personally don’t think it’s going to be the killer app that MS thinks it is.

I wouldn’t say trounced. They are comparable. One has a few I’d like. NFL(PS3 had Direct TV NFL app last year. What happened?) ESPN. A lot of PSers want HBO Go. But the big ones(Netflix, Amazon, Hulu+) are on both.

While that’s definitely true with the 360s RRoD, the first version of PS3s actually had backwards compatibility which was stripped from later iterations.

That said, I’m with you on the price point. There’s nothing out there pushing me to get either. In fact, if Sony’s recent rumored backtrack on used/shared games is a harbinger for how it works*,I might wait a couple years.
*The rumor was dispelled, but I’m still wanting to be cautious.

On the other hand, the Xbox One will have Free-To-Play games as well. The first one on tap is a reboot of Killer Instinct that has the media pretty impressed.

Also, Microsoft announced that the Games With Gold initiative will continue indefinitely and will likely (not confirmed, but likely) carry over to the Xbox One eventually.

Sure. But most of those PS3s are NO LONGER RUNNING. The YLOD has claimed most of them by now. Did a little bit better than the 360 out the gate, but but it’s still the worst version from a reliability perspective.

And I agree with enomaj - Xbox doesn’t have nearly the commanding lead that is being painted as. And I say this as someone who DOESN’T LIKE PSN. (Interesting aside: People who play fighting games on PSN have long asserted that using mics for voice chat causes lag on PSN. No such assertion has ever been levelled at XBL, in spite of many more people using mics on XBL - due to the Xbox shipping with one.)

Most of the apps on the XB1 are either largely duplicated or garbage. I mean BING? REALLY? BING?

I’m taking my chances. PS2 & PS3 long after launch. I’m getting in on the ground floor this time. Might have to buy that protection plan though.

I had both a 360 and a PS3 - I ended up selling the 360, mainly because I migrated more towards using the PS3 as a media hub. I sure miss that controller though… Anyway, I’m perplexed by Sony’s omission of DNLA support on the PS4, and why they continue to not make it IR-remote compatible. Yeah, I have an adapter for my PS3, but having to manually turn it on is a pain in the ass. Anyone know what possible reason Sony has for this?

Yeah thats cool - I thought the XBL free games were a bit rubbish in comparison though, struck me as a “we kind of have to, but our heart isnt really in it” thing

Handily, eurogamer answered my questions on PSN4 after I posted too:

But to be honest I still think the best option is to wait. It’ll probably turn out pretty similar anyway, but there may be that one exclusive announced that you can’t live with out that will later decide it for you.

Shuhei Yoshida confirmed DLNA, mp3, & CD playback in a future patch.

According to reviews that aren’t obvious payed marketing (PSNation lol), KillZone and Knack aren’t titles to get excited about.

More evidence that you should wait to hop on the next gen bandwagon.

Until TRANSISTOR comes out early next year!

Thanks for all the input. I’ve pretty much decided to wait at least till my birthday to get one. Maybe next Christmas. I think I’ll ask for a nice humidor instead.

Not really. It’s coming to PC and OSX at the same time as PS4. And it’s 2D, so anything will run it.

So? This thread is about the PS4 versus the Xbox One. And Transistor has not been announced for the Xbox One yet (and may never be released on Microsoft’s console).

Also, in a thread about PS4 and Xbox One… where the OP specifically asked the PC pushers to not push the PC… you did it anyway? Come on.
