Cookie Monster to Colbert: "Me Still Eat Cookie"

Stephen Colbert has been upstaged…by a Muppet, no less. This clip from yesterday’s Colbert Report is one of the most entertaining things I’ve seen in the show’s history. After blaming Cookie Monster’s newfound love of fruit for its dethroning of cookies as kids’ favorite snack, Mr. Monster proves that he hasn’t abandoned his favorite treat. Glad to see he’s fighting the rumors head-on, just like Obama.

In related Muppet news, I see Jon Stewart’s “Gitmo” made his second appearance last night. His first, several episodes back, had me in tears when Stewart demonstrated his version of “waterboarding”.
CM’s reminiscing about his wild days in the seventies and eighties was good, too.

Poor Gitmo’s “handler” hasn’t gotten a hold of the green screen, but that made the routine all the more funnier.

That was beautiful.

I think it’s kind of sad that people felt the need to do that to Cookie Monster.

geeeeeeeeeeenius!

Talk about a guest spot I didn’t see coming. You can see once in a while that Colbert wants his show to be a bit educational or even borderline kid-friendly, which makes for a weird constrast with his wicked satirical abilities.

You know, even though it’s probably been 15 years since I watched Sesame Street, I could tell Cookie Monster’s voice was different (i.e. not Frank Oz). That was also a weird moment for me.

“Kids, take a cookie, and a pin, and stick it to your chest.”

Hilarious, but fatal! Kids, don’t try this at home.

I spit toothpaste on the bedspread when the discussion got heated and CM exclaims, “Stephen, focus!”

“The 80s were a wild time for me…” heh…reminded of the Family Guy shot of CM locked in a bathroom stall, squeezing cookie dough onto a spoon heated with a lighter anxiously muttering “come onnnn”. (can’t youtube from work…)

Did they get the actual Sesame Street performers for this? The puppeteering was really good, spot-on, even if the voice occasionally sounded a little more Robert Smigel than Sesame Street.

Now you tell me.

There was an acknowledgement at the end of the show for Sesame Workshop providing the Sesame Street footage, so I assume they authorized Cookie Monster’s cameo as well.

Me Robert Downey Jr. of cookies. Too funny.

It takes a brave man to go on with a Muppet. Great stuff. Did anyone stay until the end? “Me hear Elmo honking.”

Plus, I love the way they catch Jon working Gitmo every time.

Yeah…

Gitmo was hilarious as usual. The part where he stuck his other hand in the shot was hilarious. Jon Stewart has such an honest likability that simply can’t be copied. He’s so comfortable in his own skin on the show and it works really well.

Since we’re mentioning Stewart, I also liked the return of The Decider and his new alter ego, The Procrastinator. “I gotta hankerin’ fer a Creamsicle!”

Cookie Monster once upstaged Martha Stewart as a guest on Martha’s show. If you like Cookie Monster, it’s worth your time. Part 1 Part 2.

Oh that was awesome.

 That was bizarre.

In part two, she has him tied up and he’s desperately trying to get to the cookies she’s making. At one point she says “Aw, cookie, you’re choking yourself.” He replies, “Me no care, me no feel pain.”

Was it cookie monster, or PCP monster?

Well, he IS the Robert Downey Jr of cookies…

the part about his car was hysterical and when he tried to eat the peabody… love it!
