Cooking with plasticware... any chemical dangers?

I notice that when I cook soups in plastic food ware, the edge of where the soup boils, kind of deforms the plastic in that area. Any chance chemicals are leaking into my soup, and killing me slowly over time?

How are you cooking it? Are you using a microwave? Is the plastic microwave safe? Is it a kind that softens with heat?

Not according to Snopes:

Weellll anything that was designed to hold food is probably safe, but there are plenty of plastics I would be leery about.

Yes, microwave. It’s a very strong plastic, but I didn’t look at the label, and now it’s gone. It’s strong, except for where the soup cooks on top at the edge. Overtime, it’s gotten rough on the edge.
