Cool pictures caught by dumb luck thread

My golden retriever is hard to get a shot of at the dog beach; he races up to me the second I point the camera in his direction. This one was just dumb luck getting the action shot, but I honestly don’t think there will ever be a happier picture of him. I smile every time I look at it.

I have no idea who took the original picture of the sidekicking Karate Kat, but it’s a hoot!

I was on a boat tour on a gray and dreary day, trying to take some decent pictures of the landscape, when I got this - Photo Storage | Photobucket.

I was photographing some socks I knitted and just as I took the picture, my cat Genevieve walked by and meowed, looking a bit vicious, but very cute!

This is one of my favorite pictures of my daughter, watching the seagulls on a rainy day at the beach. My mom just happened to catch the scene right as a gull swooped in for some food.

If you knew these dogs, and you knew they’d just come in from outside, and you knew this was taken with my phone, you’d know just how impossible a shot this really is!

This is another camera phone shot, a self portrait taken by ambient light early in the morning–I wanted something nice to send to my SO as a picture message for his birthday that day. I liked the way it came out, much better composition and lighting than I usually get with a self portrait done with such a low-tech equipment level…

Sometimes the camera phone does interesting things with lighting–serendipitously speaking… I’ve spent much time playing with chemicals trying to get as subtle a sepia tone as this.

I just bought a cheap 8.2 megapixel point & shoot so I’m looking forward to playing with it over the next few months. It’s been too long without a proper camera–my old film SLR died a while ago and I really want to pick up an equivalent digital SLR but don’t have the moolah for what I want. My son getting married put a fire under my butt to just go ahead and get an interim camera to play with until I get my cash together.
ETA: Oooh, Susie, that’s very nice!

Some of the photos here are just lovely. I love the one of Chicago in the fog. Turner would have loved it.

Here is about the only pic I ever took where I got lucky. To me it just says summer on Cape Cod.

Ooh, Susie–there’s something ambiguous about that pic, no? Is the gull foe or friend?

My MIL got lucky at the zoo with #2 son a few years ago:

excuseme?

Holy crap that’s an amazing picture.

Mine was taken at a strangely opportunistic time at a strangely opportunistic angle at Stonehenge. Walked around the bend, saw the clouds and snapped a couple of pictures. The composition on this one is the better of them. I’ve reduced the resolution dramatically, so if you want the photo at its original resolution, just PM me.

Okay, just decided to add another. It was a beautiful, clear moment in Paris (four days after the Stonehenge shot) and I shot a picture looking up at Notre-Dame Cathedral.

I told Mom I posted her picture, and she wanted me to share another one. She snapped this pic while on a walk a few nights ago, and something unusual showed up. Closeup here.

No, we didn’t tamper with the picture nor do we think it’s anything but a trick of the light or something weird going on with the camera. Still looks like a cool little fairy!

Looks like she managed to catch a grasshopper in mid-flight, actually.

(but it’s definitely more fun to think of it as a fairy, so please feel free to pretend I never said a thing  )

Oooooooh!

Ooh, I like it!

That’s just gorgeous; a very striking picture of Chicago!

Speaking of which, I snapped this photo of the Wrigley Building the last time I was in Chicago. I was just walking across the Chicago River and decided to take a quick shot of the Wrigley Building - it was very quick, no planning involved, and I only took the one shot. But the framing turned out surprisingly well, and the wind just happened to catch the flag at the perfect moment. I was very pleased with that one.

County Galway, Ireland, this is a scan of a print so quality isn’t great but you can get the jist. I think this is one of the best photos I’ve taken.

I was really happy how this pic of the Cleveland, OH skyline came out, far better than I had expected.

It sure does look like a fairy!
I wonder if it was a moth or something? Hmmm

I was finishing off a roll from a disposable underwater camera, and somehow got this image:

Tree from the bottom of a pool

I found some of those little daisy like flowers in the yard, and decided to display them in my kitchen window. They were so tiny I had to put them in a champagne flute. They stayed pretty for over a week, but the cat was making it clear, he wanted it removed from his window.
I knew the picture wouldn’t turn out right, because of the sunlight coming in the window. But I was suprised by the effect. It’s currently my desktop background.

This picture, won’t be anything special to y’all, but it was amazing to us. In the 13 years we’ve had our dog, he absolutely would rather die than have his picture taken. Infact, he looks like he’s being tortured, in the few where he hadn’t turned his head away in time.
He didn’t recognise the new camera!

Sitting in a reading a book while camping in Arkansas, I looked up and saw that we were being visited by the Shadow Hound. Luckily I had the camera in cup holder of my chair and was able to squeeze off a shot before the breeze picked up.

Wow, that is incredibly cool.
