Cool pictures caught by dumb luck thread

This was taken off the Malahat Summit on Vancouver Island when the sea fog rolled in. It has a surprise watercolor effect to it. My best guess is that I pressed the button too hard and bypassed the auto focus feature.

Here’s a link to what the sea fog is hiding.

I was on the roof of my building watching the air and water show a few weeks ago, trying to catch one of the many awesome aircraft displays with my little point and shoot and came up with this http://www.flickr.com/photos/30576791@N05/2864724943/. The dumb luck part was that I just lifted the camera up and hadn’t really gotten a shot lined up yet.

I’m not a photographer by any sense, and this photo was definitely a happy accident. It’s the large pond/small lake at the Hostel in the Forest in Georgia.

Thanks, Cat=^…^=. With my sunsets and your clouds, we could go into bizness.

That pic reminded me of my gf’s snorkeling pic. We were drunk, it was a disposible camera, and I ridiculed her claim that she saw “treasure” on the seafloor. When we got back from vacation, this was what she had seen.:

I was going to say mosquito, but yes, that grasshopper looks a perfect match. You can tell the flash fired on the picture and picked up the bug (which is much closer to the lens than it looks).

Reminds me of that “meteorite” picture that turned out to be a wasp.

Still, it makes a cool fairy!

Missed the edit window…
BTW, I thought at first that the big circular thing near the fairy was the moon, but it’s just a blob of out-of-focus dust. Unless you believe the orb guys, of course…

This one, when my Mom met my son for the first time.

And this one, about a year and a half later

Another with my Black Lab Morgana about to wash my son’s face (good timing on that one).

Actually, the only “dumb luck” pic I can find right now is this one, where the white eyes, combined with the total Dr Evil look on my kids face, really pay off!

I just wanted to show off the other ones…

A snap of my son, on our trip to California in March 2002. Neither kid had seen an ocean before, so on our first day there, we drove to the nearest beach access and let the kids run. Somehow, I caught Dweezil in mid-leap. You can tell he’s completely airborne by the feet and the shadow - there is no connection between them.

I just went through all my pictures, and if you knew me, you’d know that any picture I take that is in focus is a stroke of luck. I chose these as being the coolest.

Friend at TexRenFest 2006.

Florida coastal watch tower. This explains what it is.

Afghanistan, taken by my brother.

Afghani, also taken by my brother.

On a side note, I was lucky enough (about 10 or 15 years ago) to have access to the bell towers at Notre Dame. I walked up the tower on the left, and crossed over to the tower on the right on the uppermost connecting walkway you can see in that picture, and then came down the other tower.

Aw, I love the Shadow Hound!!

This is beautiful, absolutely.

I looked at all the photos in this thread, and yours is the most beguiling of them all - but that just my humble opinion. Thank you, enipla.

I took this one of a rainbow one day on my way home from work. Notice the fences :

and I like this one of the clouds under the power lines:

maple syrup dripping while tapping:

My son on the rocks at the ocean:

Most of these were just luck - but I try to look out for something different.

I was waiting for this little girl to move away from the sharks so I could get a better picture. Then I got impatient and took the photo anyway.

I found this snake on the Erie Canal towpath one spring afternoon. I just set the camera on the ground pointed in the general direction of the snake and hit the button before it could get away.

The light was too low, but check out the tongue!

A few years ago I was in Paris for Bastille Day. The parade on the Champs-Elysée was great, but the highlight was the fireworks display that night, coming out of the Eiffel Tower. I had staked out a position on the other side of the Seine, to get the fireworks’ reflection in the river. Just as I was taking this shot, someone bumped my tripod.

Wow! What a collection of amazing, touching, funny, and gorgeous photos! labtrash, Dr. Evil and the Devil Dogs made me laugh out loud!

Speaking of orbs, I took this photo a few years ago on Christmas night. I really was just trying to get a picture of the pristine White Christmas snow and the window candles, but it was snowing when I took the picture, so…orbs!

And thank you. I need to get in there and photoshop the date stamp out of it.

That’s beautiful - I think the orbs really put you in the picture (at least, it does for this glasses-wearing snowy land dweller. )
