Just before 8 PM, I happened to step outside to get something out of my car, and as is my habit I made a quick scan of the sky. It just so happened that the International Space Station was passing directly overhead at that moment. Nice enough, but I noticed a second glint of light following close berhind on the same track. A UFO? After checking NASA’s web site, turns out a Russian Progress-9 cargo flight is on its way to rendezvous with the station. First time I’ve managed to catch such a sight.
Ever since I first found out that the ISS was now visible I have been trying to spot it. I tracked down a NASA website which shows dates and locations when it is visible and monitored it for several months, checking for times when the weather and my schedule permitted me to scan the sky during the 1-5 minutes it would be visible.
I have never seen it.
Being in the midst of the city lights probably has contributed to this, as generally it’s too bright to see anything in the sky at night.
