Cool site: Famous Pictures

I just came across an interesting site I hadn’t seen before and I thought I’d pass it along. Famous Pictures:The Magazine tells you the story behind iconic photographs and videos.

Interesting site, it’s just a shame that so many of the thumbnails that say ‘click for larger image’ only lead to Amazon links.

It shows that they respect copyright.

Wow… I haven’t read Elian Gonzales story in a long time but, man… it’s so amazing and dramatic in so many ways.

One I was surprised by was the picture of the sailor kissing the nurse on VJ Day. I had never known that there was a second photographer who took a picture of the same couple.

I respect copyright, too, I just find it a bit misleading to think I’ll find a larger image only to be rickrolled into what amounts to an advertising link.

Although, for this image of the Reichstag, it clearly states that it’s in the public domain, yet still takes you to Amazon. (Although if you click on the ‘main article’ link and scroll down on that page, you can click to see larger images.)

I could spend hours and hours on this site. Just read the story of the “depression mom”. Geez, who knew she was only 32?

The site is cool but fucking a’, the ads are annoying. They’re right in the middle of the article and if you click on a picture that says, “This image is in the public domain” it takes you to Amazon.
