Apparently, Larry Flynt (Hustler) now owns pictures that purportedly reveal a topless Lynch “cavorting” with two male GIs in a barracks setting. There’s no explicit sexual conduct at all, as I understand it, just Jessica playfully sans top.
It’s unclear to me under what circumstances Flynt got the pictures, but it seems safe to say he doesn’t have a model’s release from Ms. Lynch.
Does he need one? I mean, she is a public figure, especially this week, and it seems like this would be covered under the same laws that allow tabloids to print photos of Demi Moore or whoever else.
Larry Flynt is a scumbag who doesn’t care who he hurts, as long as it makes money for him.
I’m certain he’ll publish the photos, whether anybody wants him to or not.

I don’t know about the legality of it, but the argument that he could publish them under the same laws that allow, say, the National Enquirer to publish topless photos of Jennifer Aniston at the beach seems reasonable.
What I do know is this: nobody with half a brain lets someone take naked, or semi-naked, pictures in this day and age without realizing that there’s a real risk that said pictures will wind up on the internet or otherwise put out there for public consumption. We’ve all seen it happen too many times to count. That leads me to think that a) she’s okay with people seeing these pictures, or b) she’s really, really, REALLY stupid.
I think it’s just possible that he won’t publish the pictures; Larry Flint is an odd little man. Besides, who says porn kings can’t be patriotic and want to protect a famous veteran?
Catlady, if the pictures were taken before her capture, she presumably had no reason to think anyone would be interested in seeing them. Surely there are plenty more GIs with nekkid pictures of themselves out there that aren’t making national news.
If celebrityhood wasn’t in her life plan, then it wasn’t necessarily stupid for her to have the pictures taken.

She was in the barracks taking her shirt off so a couple of GI’s could take a photograph of her breasts…if this does not strike anyone as particularly stupid…then I don’t know what will. Do you really think she was thinking “Naw…no other Gi’s will see the pictures…no way!”

Philosophr, she may not have minded other GIs seeing the pictures; there’s a difference between having a small group of people see pictures of you nekkid, and having them risk publication in a national magazine while you recover from debilitating injuries and have been turned into an unlikely hero in the national discourse.

I agree that there’s a difference, but she should have known better as an Army GI. She certainly should have known better than to conduct this kind of behavior in a barracks setting.
Sounds like ol’ Larry isn’t going to publish them. He’s crazy, but he’s not a bad guy. Maybe one of her girlfriends took the picture. I hope her fiance doesn’t have a shit-fit over it. Or dump her or something.
Yeah, because it respects her privacy so much more to publicly say “I have nude pictures of her but won’t publish them” than it does to say “I have nude pictures of her and will”. Truly, the man is a real prince. :rolleyes:

Okay, everyone gets naked when they take a shower. However, whenever naked pictures turn up of someone, it’s never because they were spied on in the shower.
Is it me or are there are LOT of trusting people out there who are willing to strip for the camera?
How dumb do you have to be to believe someone when they say “Oh, they’ll just be for my private collection, I’ll NEVER let anyone else see them” ??

Very, very dumb. Especially in the Internet age. As I understand it, if you pose for the picture or if you are out in public the pictures can be published.
-You’re on the beach and you go for a naked swim. Some dirtbag with a telephoto lens takes picures of you. OK.
-You’re in your home and strip down with some friends. Someone takes out a camera and you pose. OK.
-You’re in your home and someone has installed a secret camera. It takes picures of you in the nude. Not OK.

I don’t know why anyone is condemning him when he hasn’t done anything yet. What the fuck?
The thing is this, though: had Lynch not been rescued, who woulda cared about naked pictures of her?
Sure, a few people on nekkidsoldiers.com would’ve cared, but maybe that was a risk she was willing to take; maybe she didn’t much care if her naked pictures joined the 13 gazillion other naked pictures online, lost in the sea of nekkidity.
Now, however, she’s being talked about around the world, being elevated to this heroic status that she doesn’t deserve or think she deserves. Now, millions, possibly billions, of people might hear about naked pictures of her. And now she might be talked about as a slut, as a Bad Example For Little Girls Everywhere, which she also doesn’t deserve.
There’s nothing wrong with taking naked pictures of oneself, even realizing that they might become public (although the point about doing it in the barracks is well-taken - I have no idea what the rules are on such shenanigans, nor how common they are). At the same time, she’s got plenty to deal with right now: it’d be ubersleazy to add to her burden either by publishing the pictures now, or by bragging to the world about the pictures like Flynt did.
She’s already being jerked around enough without Flynt adding to her troubles.

Because saying “I have nude pictures of Jessica Lynch and won’t publish them” has the same effect on Ms. Lynch’s reputation as saying “I have nude pictures of Jessica Lynch and here they are.” By making his statement, Flynt has already publicized the fact that there are nude photos of Jessica Lynch.
