Cool website (or Holy Cow Jupiter is Far!)

Stumbled across this website today. Lots of fun stuff… and this:

If the moon were one pixel.

This is so cool! I had an astronomy prof in college who’d say things like If the earth were the size of a marble and in his cupped hands, the sun would be a basketball down at the Shamrock Bar. Thanks for posting this!

And my scroll wheel would wear out before we got to Proxima Centauri.

I suspect Nellie’s prof had a drinking problem.

Obligatory HHGTTG quote

“Space,” it says, “is big. Really big. You just won’t believe how vastly, hugely, mindbogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it’s a long way down the road to the chemist’s, but that’s just peanuts to space.”

Not to mention the efficacy of the Total Perspective Vortex.

The New Horizons probe was the fastest man-made object ever launched into space, and it took 9 and a half years to reach Pluto

Solar System Model calculator.

Fun, thanks for that. I remember my astrophysics professor trying to put the scale of space in perspective for us. He basically said it’s really big, and however big we think it is, we’re off by a factor (if not a magnitude) of 10 at the very least. He was a sharp guy, he helped build the Hubble.

…and it were white on top of yellow, it would be invisible, I get it.

Not a single rest stop in sight. Eff that.

Very nice - thanks for sharing!
