Copa America 2021, down to just four teams now

Nice for Messi to finally win one of these. I was worried after he stumbled his chance with a few minutes left - that seemed like the kind of missed chance that leads to the other team coming back immediately.

In a strange way I like when the star player isn’t the hero in the final. Ronaldo hardly played in the Euro final he won, and Messi won because of the Di Maria goal. (Of course they were both the major reason their teams won those tournaments.) I’ve always disliked how much individuals get judged by team successes in things like these.

I was glad that miss didn’t matter. That would have followed him around for a while (and of course would come up in every Messi v CR7 debate forever)

I was pleased to see Messi finally win a title. The game itself had its moments but really not enough of them. Brazil had a nice offside goal, should have been awarded a corner on one play, didn’t do as much as they could. Messi had a nice chance near the end, maybe a one touch would have been more successful than trying to deke.

It’s not football, it’s Argentina-Brasil, each player has the weight of History on his legs.

If it is the hand of God, is it too much to ask for the legs of Hermes?

Already happened, In Turin, June 24, 1990.

Well, we witnessed an unprecedented event tonight, with Brazil losing a home game to Argentina. Messi finally gets the monkey off his back, so I feel great for him.
